The Met Gala has raised $42m for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute at this year’s event in New York.

Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams were among the co-hosts, as celebrities including Rihanna, Jay-Z and Blake Lively attended under the theme “Fashion is Art”.

But the event drew criticism over the growing presence of tech billionaires, with figures linked to companies like OpenAI and Meta reportedly hosting tables.

At least 15 people were killed in the second large-scale Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital in a week, officials have said.

Rescuers are searching for bodies in the rubble of residential blocks in Kyiv, after the latest Russian bombardment of the Ukrainian capital.

Ukraine’s air force said Russia knew Kyiv had all but run out of interceptor rockets, so it was attacking with ballistic missiles. None of the 23 used in the latest attack was shot down.

A frustrated President Zelensky urged Ukraine’s NATO allies to take “strong decisions” at their summit on Tuesday to provide it with air defences, posting that “as long as missiles for Patriots remain in the warehouses of allies, it only encourages Russia to continue defeating residential buildings. The United States and Europe have enough power to stop this terror”.
