🔥EPIC FIGHT‼️ Amir Khan vs Marcos Maidana | FULL FIGHT | WBA Light-Welterweight Title | Sky Sports

Published

on

Amir Khan vs. Marcos Maidana was a professional boxing match contested on December 11, 2010, for the WBA Light welterweight championship.
The bout was awarded Fight of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

On 9 March 2010, Golden Boy Promotions confirmed that WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan and former light welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi will hold a press conference in London to announce their world title bout set for 15 May at the Madison Square Garden in New York. This was Khan’s first bout in the U.S. The fight was for the WBA light welterweight title, which Khan won in the 11th round.

Immediately after the fight, Khan stated he wanted to fight Marcos Maidana next and unify the light-welterweight division, suggesting that the way to do this would be for him to fight Maidana, and then go on to face the winner of a Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley match.

Maidana, after failing to challenge undefeated WBO Junior Welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, postponed the fight to June 19 due to a back injury suffered by Maidana.

On May 3, Maidana pulled out of the fight yet again, still citing his back as the problem. The fight had already been rescheduled from June 19 to July 17, and Bradley went on to fight Luis Carlos Abregu on July 17, instead of Maidana.

After failing to secure the fight with Bradley, Maidana’s camp announced that he would fight former-WBO junior welterweight champ DeMarcus Corley, on August 28, 2010 at the Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Maidana went on to go and win by unanimous decision.

Khan was looking for a good opponent to next challenge him for his title. One of his possible opponents was Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez decided not to move up in weight and stayed at lightweight.

Maidana then stated his intention to fight Khan: “Stop looking for possible opponents for next Khan December 11 in England. Stop looking for lightweight boxers and face the real 140-pounders. I’ll go to Khan’s home soil to take the other portion of the WBA title that belongs to me.”

The HBO-televised fight took place at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Guaranteed fight purses:

Amir Khan ($1,500,000) vs. Marcos Maidana ($550,000)

Muhammad Ali vs Joe Bugner I | FULL FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS | ABC 1080p | 12 Rounds Heavyweight Boxing

Published

on

Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Bugner was a professional boxing match contested on February 14, 1973.

After returning from his nearly four year boxing ban, former champion Muhammad Ali attempted to take the heavyweight title from the new champion Joe Frazier in March 1971. The much anticipated fight, dubbed Fight of the Century, resulted in Ali suffering his first professional defeat, losing a 15-round decision to Frazier. Undeterred, Ali went on to win nine straight fights in under 18 months before facing off with Bugner.

Joe Bugner rose to prominence around the same time of the first Ali-Frazier fight, winning the British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight titles in a close 15-round match with the famous Henry Cooper. Although he lost the titles six months later, he regained the European title the following year, after scoring an eight-round knockout over new champion Jürgen Blin.

Terence Crawford vs Shawn Porter | WBO Welterweight Boxing | FULL FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS

Published

on

Terence Crawford 37–0 (28 KO) vs. Shawn Porter 31–3–1 (17 KO) was a professional boxing match contested on November 20, 2021, for the WBO welterweight championship.

On July 31, 2021, the WBO ordered Terence Crawford to defend his welterweight title against the #2 ranked WBO welterweight contender Shawn Porter. The former two-time welterweight champion was seen as the biggest challenge in Crawford’s career up to that point, with ESPN describing Porter as “a quantum leap in competition”. As the two sides were unable to negotiate the terms of the fight, the WBO set a purse bid for September 2, which was later postponed until September 14. Crawford and Porter would adhere to a 60-40 purse split, rather than the usual 80-20 split for mandated matches, taking into account the earnings from their three previous fights.

On September 14, it was announced that a deal had been agreed to stage the fight on November 20 at the Michelob Ultra Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, airing on ESPN+ PPV. The event will be promoted and led by Crawford’s promoter Top Rank, in association with Porter’s promoter Premier Boxing Champions. In adherence to the agreed 60-40 split, Crawford is guaranteed upward of $6 million, while Porter is guaranteed at least $4 million.

Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Teofimo Lopez | FULL FIGHT HIGHLIGHTS | WBA/WBO/IBF/RING Lightweight Boxing

Published

on

Vasiliy Lomachenko 14–1 (10 KO) vs. Teófimo López 15–0 (12 KO), billed as Winner Takes All, was a unification professional boxing match contested between WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and IBF lightweight champion, Teófimo López. The bout took place on October 17, 2020, at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Paradise, Nevada.

López scored a second-round technical knockout victory against Richard Commey to capture the IBF lightweight title on December 14, 2019. In the same month, Lomachenko announced there was an agreement to face the newly crowned champion in a unification bout in April, saying, “On paper, there is an agreement that the match is going to happen, and it’s going to happen in April. However, they have not yet established a date. This fight is happening in April.”

With the fight between Lomachenko and Lopez agreed, Arum set out possible venues. With the fight likely taking place in May 2020, Arum hinted the fight could take place in Saudi Arabia. Lomachenko admitted he did not learn anything about Lopez in his recent win over Commey. On February 8, López hinted at a date and location for the fight on Twitter, with lyrics from the song “New York, New York”, posting, “May 30th. Start spreadin’ the news, I’m leaving today, I want to be a part of it.

The proposed date was eventually scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Lomachenko going back to his native home of Ukraine. Lopez accused team Lomachenko for making the negotiations difficult. Egis Klimas responded the only wait was finding the venue.

After October was chosen as a new date, the fight appeared to be in jeopardy due to a pay dispute from López, who was unhappy with an offer of $1.25m while Lomachenko was set to earn in excess of $3.5m. With López’ manager, David McWater explaining, “We think that [Lomachenko] probably deserves more money, but not three times as much. We’re hoping that there is enough impetus to get this fight done, and Top Rank will come back and talk to us”.

According to Arum, Lomachenko agreed to reduce his own purse in order to get the fight across the line. It was reported that Lopez would receive closer to $2 million.

On September 8, after weeks of difficult negotiations, the bout was finally announced for October 17, with the venue set for the Top Rank Bubble, located at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Paradise, Nevada.

Originally, the plan was for the card to be PPV. Arum praised ESPN for their efforts to have the card broadcast for cable and satellite viewers. He said, “What I’m most proud of is it’s clearly the best fight since the pandemic started. It would’ve been a major fight even without the pandemic, and now it’s being shown to the public without an extra charge. Nobody has to pay 5 cents to watch it. You don’t even have to be subscribed for $4.99 a month to watch it on ESPN+. If they’re a cable subscriber or a satellite subscriber, they get it for nothing.” Arum believed it would feel indelicate to ask the public to pay up to $70 for the event. This way the fight would be available to approximately 80 million homes.

There was no rematch clause in place for the fight. Lopez said this on the Ak And Barak Show. Arum later confirmed this stating if the fight warranted a rematch, the two boxers would eventually agree to the terms, without being contractually obliged. Arum said rematch clauses were overused and criticised Eddie Hearn, saying, “He puts a rematch clause in every contract, and that may indicate that he is not confident in how his fighter will perform.”

No tickets went on sale for the event. It was reported that 250 people would be allowed to attend under the NSAC’s new protocols. Those attending would be a number of guests per fighter, a few reporters and mostly first responders from Nevada.

During fight week, Lopez hit out at reporters about Lomachenko giving up some of his purse. He said, “He never gave me money. I don’t know why people keep saying that sh-t. I thought I cleared that out a long time ago. Nah, man, my pride kicks in when that happens. I won’t ever take somebody else’s paycheck. You know what I mean?” The main reason Lopez was able to be offered more money was down to ESPN deciding not to have the fight behind a paywall. Both boxers weighed on the 135 pound limit. Neither wore masks during the face-off and the final hurdle would be testing negative to coronavirus on fight day.

Lomachenko was listed a 4-1 favorite by the sports books

Nevertheless, Froch got the win and the 2 points for his victory.
