Would I be able to make these in advance, store in ramekins (in the fridge?) to cook the next day or would it not be the same? Obviously allowing for extra cooking time from the fridge…

If the center is uncooked, what of the eggs in that mixture? Other recipes make the cake batter and the center (without egg) separately then cook together. The center is still liquid but has no eggs.

ok still cofnused, the desert is of a sponge and melted chocolate inside, and yet not once did i see the sponge being made or the chocolate beingplaced into the spnge. and only seeeing the mixture being put into a "cup" which the ended upo being the desert. so how did the liquid ingriedent suddenly become not only the sponge but also the choclate liquid inside…. makes no sense

I recently tried to make lava cake the way it's shown here, but on both tries the melted part in the middle flowed out the moment I put it on a plate. As in the bottom (or the top when in the oven) always turns out to weak to hold the melted part inside. I even tried baking it for 20 min but that helped only slightly. The only difference in the recipe I made is the substitution of white sugar for brown. Any advice?
The taste is just just the way it should be, though.

The funny thing is that fondant means a totally different thing in the US and no one likes it. Gross sugar paste used to decorate cakes.

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

can it be made in a microwave??? dont have an oven at the moment…

  28. @stevenn1940

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

I'm actually shocked. I always thought that lava cakes were two or three part recipes: the outside cake, the filling, then the bottom/top/whatever. But no, as you've shown us, it's literally one batter, but (as far as I understand) because the oven is so hot, the outside firms up, but the inside doesn't solidfy.

    I'm impressed and surprised

"Bouncy in the middle but has started to come away from the edges" was the perfect tip I needed for my lava cakes! Thank you!!!

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

So then there is raw egg in the lava?

  31. @imogentait5744

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Hello, I love this recipe and I often make this when I need a chocolate sweet. Sometimes I don’t have eggs in the house though. What is the best egg substitute for this recipe? I have tried vinegar and bicarbonate of soda but that didn’t really work.

  32. @Cortexsaga

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

I've always made mine with a thing of frozen ganash in the middle. This is different.

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Tried this recipe and 12 minutes turned them into brownies for me, will try it again at 7 minutes next time

  34. @AspergersversusNeurotypicals

but is the egg still raw? for those trying to avoid salmonella etc.

Can these be frozen after being cooked then reheated in an microwave?

  36. @furzle1552

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Would it make a difference if you used muffin pans instead of ramekins?

  37. @gamelofdemenor8228

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

Is it fine if i use 300ml cups? Or will it not bake properly?

  38. @lydiaspeth9226

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm

So, mine all stuck on the bottom. But just a small circle in the middle of the bottom. Everywhere else came out fine. So does that mean they were over cooked or under cooked?

  39. @Daisy.florina

    January 26, 2024 at 8:10 pm
