‘It’s NOT justice!’ | Keir Starmer ‘appalled’ as boys spared jail after raping teenage girls
Emma Trimble and Matthew Torbitt share their outrage as a rape case involving three teenage boys was spared prison sentences over the rape of two girls, as Keir Starmer is ‘appalled’ by the case. The panel contrasts this decision with recent harsh sentences for social media posts, analysing the deeper structural failures of the British justice system and the government’s response to violent crime.

Wes Streeting’s “friend” BETRAYED following resignation: “I don’t agree with what he said”
Wes Streeting’s “friend” has admitted he is “very sad” to see the former Health Secretary leave the Cabinet – but took exception to something in his resignation letter.
Speaking to GB News Breakfast, Housing Secretary Steve Reed said: “I felt very sad…. But then when I look at the detail of his letter, I’m afraid I don’t agree with what he said, despite him being a friend.”
Mr. Reed added that Streeting was wrong to “walk away.”

The minority of students purposely study at university as a guise to get rich quick by taking out student and maintenance loans and not pay it back. The Majority of students genuinely want to achieve something in life to earn a high salary.

Jewellery making requires as fair bit of maths. Potters need some understanding of chemistry to make glazes. Reading music well requires spatial intelligence. Universities are full of people who shouldn't be there.

How the hell can you study for a degree if you fail GCSE Maths? I sat the first ever GCSEs in 1988 and I also sat a Biology “O” level a year early in 1987. The “O” crushed the GCSEs for difficulty. I got a “B” for my Maths GCSE when you actually had to get over 80% to get a “B” and was told by my teachers I as they bright enough to go University.
Youth today really doesn’t know how lucky they are with all the opportunities they have.

On the subject of Jewellery a friend of mine went back to Uni late to work with Jewells and now he's featured in vogue. I'm not into that very much, but his work is beautiful and does have a place in the world. I'm doing tech, no rip-off Uni course required, open source all the way baby! (I owe the OU 6k for 3 text books and 3 DVDs! 1 year study material)

Aaaah, universities setting entry standards, getting a "C" in GCSE maths and english is a pretty low bar you'll just about be able to fill out the application form and calculate what the interest payments are. So are you really that motivated or just creating another victimhood status.?

Do you need a math GCSE to study art or music? Does an English degree need math? Do you need a GCSE in English to study Welsh, (if you're brilliant at Welsh).
@damianoconnor2177
December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
You can obtain worthless degrees in worthless subjects from any uni. Not one single uni does common sense and critical thinking to degree level. Stupid poorly educated people are easy to control and manipulate. The last 2 years has proven this beyond any reasonable doubt. The setup is brilliant, make the gullible pay for their own indoctrination, and make sure it's expensive and worthless.

It seems that higher education system wants to make as much money as possible. I believe that higher education is not interested in students being successful in their future and if you go in Dept for thousands of dollars well that doesn't seem to be a concern to schools at all. I believe that higher education is there to teach our children what to think and not how to think and make a better life for everyone else in the country.
@kierandevlin8361
December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
As a software engineer (that never went to uni), this argument that most of GCSE mathematics is redundant is so stupid its unreal. You shouldn't be able to comment on children's education unless you hold some form of certification to prove you have excelled in the field you're commenting on. You'd never hear me say most of geography is redundant. I know very little about the subject.
She goes on to say how she's "successful" because she holds a degree in a subject but got an E in GCSE mathematics. That's YOUR measure of success. A degree to me means nothing. Well done, you know everything about fashion design, but can you do something as basic as calculate the percentage of a number? No? I wouldn't call that a success story.
But on the topic of uni, I agree, it might be beneficial to certain people but it's definitely not the only way to go (depending on your field of choice, i.e medical professions are required to have formal education).
@undesignated3491
December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
Its up to the finance providers and like life should be based on risk, why would you give a student a loan with low GCSE grades and they continue into Academia, some people are Academics others not so, find your niche.
@jamescaley9942
December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
Pass exams to gain entry into an academic institution. What an outrageously high expectation to place on young people. Just put the university degree certificates on toilet roll with a sign "please take one".

@evanm2024
December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
We can agree, disagree, and debate this issue. But at least it's based on merit, which is more than I can say about a lot of university admissions.

I advertised recently for an admin role at the lower end of the scale which required 5 GCEs including Maths and English. Most applicants had a university degree. I thought that spoke volumes about the worthlessness of degrees these days. In contrast, I took on 2 apprentices straight from A level a few years ago and they are now in skilled roles within my organisation earning good money (more than any of the degree applicants) and debt-free. I would encourage anybody to consider taking on or going for apprenticeships.

Universities are just another business. My brother just retired from a international company that have now stopped taking university graduates in chemistry as they haven't the level of knowledge required. They have gone back to doing it day release, just so people get the bit of paper, but they get properly trained on the job.

December 29, 2023 at 2:13 am
Well why not, when my younger sister went to university, the requirement for all students was that they had to pass Maths. I don't know about English unless I ask her, but absolutely you should have Maths. Perhaps they shouldn't go then and look at a career job that you dont need maths and English, not sure what that would be though, living in Britain.!!!!

Good, not e everyone should go to university. In other countries the experiment of giving free education was a disaster. Taxpayers pay for hundreds of doctors who never found a job and ended up as taxi drivers. What about the kids studying silly degrees like "queer studies" 🙄 where are they going to work?
