UN agency warns of impending ‘health disaster’ in Gaza – BBC News

Published

on

The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees has warned of an impending “health disaster” in Gaza, following the blast at the Al Ahli hospital.

Israel has said “will not thwart humanitarian supplies from Egypt as long as it is only food, water and medicine for the civilian population in the southern Gaza Strip”.

But it will “not allow any humanitarian aid from its territory to the Gaza Strip as long as our hostages are not returned,” the statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s office adds.

They arent all dancing in the streets now, are they?! We wont forget the little jig that Palestinians danced on September 11th, nor after the terrorist attacks on Israel. I suggest they learn how to eat concrete dust. And whilst they are at it, think about whether they need to take up arms and take back their "country" from Hamas, that they rather stupidly voted in!

Hamas are so prevalent and in control in Gaza they will steal all the food and medical supplies they can get their hands on, and to them it is a "no lose" situation, because the worse civilians suffer the more they will use it for their propaganda purposes. Israel are trying to make sure it gets to the population instead, but I do not think they will succeed. Stopping water going in is going way to far. If Israel are doing that it is really wrong of them. While hostages are still in the hands of Hamas…. I do not see this stopping .

Listening to the BBC News correspondent from Israel still putting out propaganda that it was an Israeli strike on the hospital. He is not prepared to look at the evidence of the Hamas rocket which fell on the hospital carpark damaging 16/16 cars, some with windows still in place and a two cars with mattresses on the roof. I have over 30 years dealing with ordnance and there is only a small whole in the ground. This is clear evidence that this was not a JDAM, it would have left a significant hole in the ground and all those cars would have been destroyed and building badly damaged. There was clearly secondary explosions caused by the fuel tanks within these vehicles exploding.
There is nothing from the BBC about the dreadful conditions that Hamas are holding the 199 hostages and their treatment. What about their inhumane treatment and conditions, these are on going war crimes.
Let us have some fair and balanced reporting, and call Hamas terrorists for that is what they are. They started this slaughtering innocent men, women and children. They raped and killed a German girl and then parades her naked dead body around Gaza, like crazy wolves 😢

    1. The United Nations needs to start condemning Hamas for breaching the Geneva Convention by using the Gaza populace as human shields.

    2. The UN should call upon Hamas to create a "safe zone" for civilians by removing their combatants from a suitable area entirely.

Why is the UN not addressing the actual causes of this humanitarian crisis and finding solutions that do not discount Israels right to self defence?

Gaza is in ruins because Hamas is holding 199 hostages and brutally slaughtered grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and unborn infants on October 7th. All of this will end if they surrender en mass and release the hostages. Otherwise a lot of bombs and death are sure to follow. It’s completely up to Hamas.

British man claims record-breaking fastest run across Australia | BBC News

Published

A British ultra-endurance athlete says he has broken the world record for running across the width of Australia, after a gruelling 35-day journey.

William Goodge, 31, started the 3,800km (2,361-mile) run from Cottesloe Beach in Perth on 15 April, and finished on Monday afternoon at Australia’s iconic Bondi Beach.

Goodge’s team says he ran the equivalent of two-and-a-half marathons, about 100km, every day.

The record is yet to be verified by Guinness World Records, which certified Chris Turnbull’s record-breaking dash across the continent over 39 days in 2023. The year before, Australian electrician Nedd Brockmann ran the same route in 47 days.

Zelensky challenges Putin to meet this week after pressure from President Trump | BBC News

Published

on

President Zelensky has said he’s ready to meet Vladimir Putin in Turkey this week for talks on ending the Ukraine War. It’s proposed that they take place in Turkey on Thursday.

It came after President Trump demanded immediate direct talks between Ukraine and Russia to determine if a peace deal is possible.

Mr Zelensky had previously insisted that a full ceasefire must begin ahead of any negotiations. Russia’s leader has refused to agree a ceasefire but has agreed to talks, although he’s not said if he will personally take part.

Reeta Chakrabarti presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Frank Gardner.
