1): HATE jasmine rice, WAY too perfume-forward. BLECK. 2): "Banana ketchup"??? Yeah, why not, I'd give it a burl. 3): I'm QUITE fond of dried fruit (I like to put some GOOD quality ones in my stews and curries, so yeah. 4): Well, I don't wig out on sweets and tend to give the old "fish-eye" in regards to sugar substitutes, so nah.

Lol- so Ben’s just out there reproducing by himself apparently y!🤷‍♀️👍🏻👍🏻😅

Considering my current addiction to dried mango has me paying between &4.50-$8 a bag- that dried fruit is pretty accurately priced!🤷‍♀️👍🏻
Oh- and when I say “addicted” I mean it- eating too much ended me up in hospital- where they did a scan and discovered some malignant tumours- so the doctor joked that my dried mango addiction saved my life………..which is why I still feel justified in eating it lol

Xylitol kills pets VERY easily and absolutely destroys anyone with bowel issues for sometimes several days. The founders probably didn't tell ben that.

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

xylatol is very toxic to dogs

  6. @user-qz3nj6gp3o

Xylitol also can induce diarrhea. don't ask how i know…

  8. @karlapants

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I worked at a emergency vet for 7 years xylitol is deadly to dogs… do not let your dogs around this or anything called Birch product because they changed the name in the US

  9. @bloodwolfblacktree

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I know it's a two-year-old video, but I'd just like to comment that xylitol is incredibly toxic to pets and if you use this sweetener in anything, DO NOT SHARE with your animals.

  10. @ethancampbell215

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I love these type of videos because chef skills and challenges help me improve my kitchen skills and knowledge of different recipes and ideas, but food trend videos teach me about what happens outside the kitchen that I had no idea about so it’s always an interesting learning opportunity

Mike, I invite you to come speak at my birthday party.

  12. @OriginalSin666

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Xylitol is also toxic to dogs and cats even in small amounts. It can cause fatal hypoglycemia and liver failure if ingested.

  13. @nephicus339

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

When James said, "Disolving [ Xylitol] in a liquid, it works."
How is it in a soda?
The sugar free soda we tend to get in my household uses stevia leaf extract; as far as I'm aware, stevia has to be cultivated like sugar cane. But if xylitol works, and can be made from agriculture waste, might change things around a bit.

Donating to 3rd world countries is actually harming their long term independence for momentary mercy. Be careful you don't create an even worse underclass in your empathy.

My non Ebbers fun fact is that charity from the West actually caused a population boom in Africa that created more poverty and suffering than had we never interferred in our arrogance that we could just casually donate and somehow not suffer the law of unintended consequences.

  15. @Luminocite

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

As a Mexican 200 pesos for the xylitol is approximately 10 times what a bag of sugar is, so definitely not affordable and so the majority of the population wouldn’t be able to buy it and then who is it really benefiting? Just a thought

  16. @edwardbarton6753

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Barry – “Food waste seems to be at the centre of a lot of these products”

It was a food waste seminar wasn’t it?

  17. @MrBobWareham

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

The sugar test was interesting, I have watched my wife cake making and was amazed at the amount of sugar used to make a cake so my question is can you make a sponge cake without sugar, if so can you show us on the show!!

  18. @jf76

Avocados. I love them. However I often can't catch them in time to eat when they are perfectly ripe (and I only buy one or two at a time – usually not ripe enough yet) and then with chagrin have to throw them away. How do restaurants do it, always serving perfect ones? Any tips for someone at home? Most people don't have time to constantly check their avocados, but maybe that is the key, ha. The other item is limes. They look so great in the store – fresh, green, but just a couple of days later they get hard and browner. I love fresh produce but sometimes it needs a lot of babysitting if you don't/can't produce shop daily.

  19. @alandunbar4244

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I would say Erythritol is better forbaking & coating food, but as a diabetic I switched to Xylitol for Teat/Coffee etc and you can now buy it at a reasonable price in most supermarkets

  20. @issacyoung6208

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

While I do agree we should be talking more about food shouldn't be so cheap, I hate that 2$/day up to 15$/day seems like such a boost. I would barely work for 15$/hour and I know what plays into that is my cost of living which is dependent on where you live but it feels still so much like the women's labor is waaaaaaay undervalued even still.

  21. @vlogerhood

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Mike talking about the "obesity problem" should know that there is no such problem, it is entirely fabricated.

  22. @Arcanua

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I really wish we could find a proper balance between the whole sugar problem thing, there are a LOT of people are are allergic to most to all of these sugar replacements…myself included. But we need to find a way to aid those who also can't have sugar, the entire time it's been get rid of all the sugar and that doesn't fix anything and I see that particular product not doing as much due to that whole mess. There is an obesity problem with the world but it's not just sugar's fault and despite that they still think getting rid of it completely whilst knowing people are allergic to things like Xylitol among other alternatives just astounds me. I'm just glad in Japan we don't do it as much…but it makes traveling a nightmare due to having to check anything I pickup to see if it has any of those things in it. Xylitol is even one of the more common ones to be allergic to in particular.

  23. @carmenattallah6244

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs. I’m not sure we need more chemicals to replace foods. And I hate to think how many animals might be accidentally poisoned by people sharing food with them sweetened with that stuff.

  24. @Flareontoast

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Just curious, is rice in two kilo packages common in England? Standard here is one kilo, sometimes 500 gr. For rice that's more than a kilo you have to go to an Asian supermarket

  25. @HannibalFan52

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

i'm not a very adventurous eater, so the banana ketchup and jackfruit products don't interest me. However, the dried pineapple and the rice do appeal, and I'm delighted that food waste and improving people's lives are being addressed.

One warning on the Xilinat: Xylitol is toxic for pets, especially dogs and cats, so be careful not to leave it or anything containing it anywhere pets can get at it.

  26. @shannonsmith4174

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

    YES I AGREE BANANA'S ARE DIGUSTING YUCK….

  28. @HyperactiveNeuron

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Great job! Food waste is a huge problem world wide. Kudos for shining a light on it.

Banana ketchup is good. Banana pepper mustard is amazing.

  29. @bladepanthera

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

No sugar in James's house? Can I move in? I think my life would totally improve without such temptations. 😂

Just an FYI, Xilinat is toxic to dogs! A little will do a lot of damage, physically to a dog and can kill them. And that is any canids,so read your labels carefully, many peanut butters have this in it.

  32. @kashgohel

Just wondering why the wages shouldn’t be a lot more than $15 a day?

  35. @mary-ruthflores4107

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Just FYI xilinat Xylitol is deadly to dogs, a smal amount will kill them. As per my vet

  36. @Kai-fl1se

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

When I used to live in the Philippines, I always saw rice drying on tarps on the side of the road next to rice fields. I always wondered why they were doing that, now I know

  37. @couttsw

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

    Bloody English, 1 Churro, 2 Churro's.

  38. @Nytchade

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Fairly old vid, but looking (fairly "normal"ly) into it – The Rice Inc. rice is only available in the UK. I'd love to see something like this expand into other countries how do we make that happen?! I'd also love to see companies that are trying to look at sustainable energy get on board with these sorts of things. I'd rather see Elon expand into this area than some stupid truck… Just my opinion.

By the way I'm in Australia, still love the culture and concepts of your channel. Would love to see you boys out in Australia some day to see what you make of local and traditional (indigenous) cuisine and/or food stuffs. The European side of Australia has some interesting takes on Euro foods and the indigenous foods are extremely interesting (Ben {and James, if you're about}, you'd find flavours you would have never even tasted or considered).

Love your work! Opening the eyes of the "normals" and expanding the horizons of some chefs (I imagine). Thanks!

  39. @marilynalvarez9951

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Here's my question (yes I know I'm late here) if these growers know that 1.5 million bananas are not making it, why keep over growing them, why not plant something else that can be just as beneficial for the community and them?

  40. @Friend2FriendnMA

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Xyitol, should be researched before anyone begins using it. Too much for me is what is contained in three tiny organic candies. It causes cramping and a race to the bathroom. Once I sat up in bed out of a sound sleep. The pain was that bad.

  41. @onyxblack2409

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Anyone else want to know james chocolate fondant recipe? 15 mins til chocolate sounds really good

  42. @cris_j

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

"Inappropriate Banana" is the name of my new band.

  43. @andrewwalsh2956

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

What's Jew diligence? Where you get Jewish focus group to review the product? 😂

  44. @KrisAdamsTV

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

The absolutely best part of that video was when James went "Shall I tell him what it actually is? That's obviously not rice, Barry"… And (I would also believe the chef), Barry gets confused. Then James goes "Of course it's rice" 😂

  45. @marinelotrivino9995

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

I'm happy that they like the Banana Ketchup. Most filipino use banana ketchup more than tomato ketchup. I always have a bottle of banana ketchup in my kitchen for dipping and cooking..

  46. @DaemonTalons

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Just be aware that while Xylitol is ok for humans, it is EXTREMELY TOXIC for dogs. Keep your pups safe!

  47. @angelkisses5933

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Can we please have all the series videos into one place so we can binge watch each episode of the series cos I go on to the categories but I can't find ALL the vids! X

  48. @ianyoung9539

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

Did you know the first banana ketchup was made in Philippines during WWII as there was a shortage of tomatoes. It is red in colour rather than the brownish look of the product you had, is more popular in the country than ketchup (mostly Heinz & Hunts from USA). Using Lakatan variety, often, and being sweeter than Cavendish, they tend to spice up the ketchup so it doesn't taste too sweet. I now prefer it to tomato ketchup, although I still like my own homemade sauces & relishes, when I can make them.

  49. @docm27

    December 20, 2023 at 12:38 pm

No food, however ethically sourced, will ever catch on if it tastes unpleasant. and not if it's much more expensive. No point in saying items are falsely cheap.
