Ukraine moves its Christmas date marking shift away from Russia | BBC News
For the first time since 1917, Ukraine is celebrating Christmas on 25 December.
The move is more than just a change of date from 7 January – the date for Christmas in the Julian calendar, which Russia uses.
It’s the continuation of a significant cultural shift in the country – the latest attempt to eradicate Moscow’s influence in Ukraine.
The adoption of the Western, Gregorian calendar is also a sign of Kyiv’s continuing bid to align itself with Europe.

Russia hits train in Ukraine after Boris Johnson, top European officials leave station | BBC News
A Russian drone has hit a train near the Ukraine-Poland border shortly after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and top European security officials had passed through.
No casualties were reported after the strike at Yahodyn, which hit the train’s engine. All the passengers had been evacuated, Ukrainian authorities said.
Johnson and other European national security advisers, including the UK’s Jonathan Powell, had passed along the same line on a different train on their way back from a conference in Kyiv.
Russia said it had struck “railway infrastructure” in western Ukraine, but Ukraine’s state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia said that “quite possibly, the target of this drone could have been the diplomatic train”.

Nato is urged to target Russian drones over Ukraine and other top stories | Global News Podcast
A US-based think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, has said Nato should consider intercepting Russian drones in Ukrainian airspace, after a drone struck a train near the Polish border. The attack happened soon after a train carrying top European security officials and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson had passed through the same station. The Nato chief Mark Rutte said Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure near the bloc’s territory would not undermine the alliance’s unity or its support for Ukraine.

Politics over religion. When politics is used to attack everything Russia has, even when it is clear it is not Russian.

Dates should be changed because they are convinced, not because they have the ambition of proving something. Jesus Christ should be kept away from human wordly politics.

By far, the dumbest self-inflicted wound i have ever seen. Without diving into the history too much… the argument for Ukraines continued existence is their association with the Orthodox faith, which ALL celebrate on January 7th. Basically, Ukraine just suggested that Western Ukraine should be reabsorbed by Poland and the East by Russia…. slow clap

Some Orthodox churches celebrate Christmas on 25 December – the Patriarchate of Constantinople and Antioch is a good example. These two Patriarchates take a different stance towards Russia, so it’s not about a NATO prone ecumenical Constantinople versus a more tradition observing Moscow. Plus, celebrating Christmas on 25 December is an old Orthodox tradition, it used to be celebrated on 25 December in the Russian Empire under the Julian calendar, for instance. The Church still uses this calendar, but not the laymen.

Not quite true the Ukrainian Orthodox and Catholic churches haw been discussing this change for a number of years. The Orthodox Church will still be celebrating Easter by the old calendar. The Churches just took advantage of the war to make the transition easier for its conservative parishioners.

It's propaganda!!! Educate yourself and you will be surprised by the fact that Catholic Ukrainians always celebrate Christmas on 25th but there are also many Orthodox Ukrainians and the government forces them to do it the same way!!! Ask whether ordinary people agree with it or not?! You will be also surprised by the answer. So please don't spread misinformation!!!

By the way… The Orthodox celebrate their Christmas on 7th Jan. They have done this for 2000 years. It has nothing to do with the Soviets. Ukraine is predominantly Orthodox. Are the BBC that ignorant.

Meanwhile Zelensky arrests Orthodox Priests and shuts down Churches. A Hypocrite.
Ukranins celebrate Stepan Bandera on January 1st.A well known Nazi sympathisers that butchered thousands in WW2. (no Nazis in Ukraine of course)
14 000 Civilians many children killed by Ukranian attacks in Donbass.
Ukranians speak a Russian language. Read a History book.

BBC proudly reports on Jewish quasi president orders a change of a thousand year old religion tradition!!!?
How long will the change last? Ukrainian s in Canada are proud of their Christmas, Easter…
This is the same as the Vatican, Stalin, Hitler and many others in recent days are trying to annihilate other religions.
Russia or not you do not change your history and tradition.
