Ukraine: No fast results in offensive against Russia, top general says – BBC News

Published

on

One of Ukraine’s most senior military commanders has said that their offensive against Russian military forces is not going as fast as they would like.

Speaking to the BBC, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Russian defences, including minefields, mean that quick results are “practically impossible”.

But, having led the defence of Kyiv at the start of the Russian invasion and masterminding Ukraine’s surprise counter-attack in Kharkiv last summer, General Syrskyi said he hopes Ukraine will be able to recapture the city of Bakhmut, which was captured by Wagner forces earlier this year.

Victory ✌️ to western plutocracy and military industrial complex plutocrats ruling the west and who own the media and politicians. ✌️

War means new weapons markets and profits and clearing of old inventory .

Profits means more money 💰 for mansions and super yachts and private jets and other good things in life.

Victory ✌️ to the profiteers of war. ✌️

Why doesn't the BBC investigate UK connections to the war in Ukraine? For example engineer Alexander Zakharov?

The family of Russian engineer Alexander Zakharov, who designed the Lancet kamikaze drone for the Russian army, owns a flat in central London worth almost US$2 million – and his son, Lavrentii Zakharov, works at the UN Institute for Disarmament Research.

The Japanese government has a Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary named Seiji Kihara. His wife had previously been interviewed as a material witness in a murder case. However, the female detective in charge of the case was suddenly removed from the case, and the investigation headquarters was disbanded. There were suspicions that his wife may have murdered him, but it was ruled a suicide. The result was so bizarre that some have suggested that Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara and the Liberal Democratic Party may have exerted pressure on the police. However, the Japanese media has not reported on this issue at all. We hope that the British Broadcasting Corporation will report the dark side of Japan with justice and journalistic spirit.

I am an ordinary person ,yet I have a vision that ultimately Ukraine will be a small land locked country confined to its western part. It will never win the war against Russia despite massive arms supply to it by NATO countries. NATO countries are only devastating Ukraine without their direct participation in the war. If they participate, there will be WW III and all European countries will vanish from the world map. The possibility of a nuclear war will certainly be there.

Making tanks a corner stone of any counter offensive was always doomed to failure, given all ground vehicles have been outclassed by drones, in near every way. Tanks cant even hold ground against drones. There in lies the problem. 😂🤣🤪 No Ukraine doesn't have the required hardware. They need four times the long range missiles they have and four times the amount of drones.

How Bakmut may be well prepared for defences by Russians? They just caprtured it with no standing stone left for them, only dust and rubble. Unlike in other places Russia had no time at all to prepare Bakmut for defence. And still Ukraine is not able to move forward, decpite all the military and whatever support from the West. What a hypocrites! They are only worthlessly mincing their people, give glamourous interviews and beg for more money and armament.

    ——

Odesa. Mykolaiv. Russian terrorists continue their attempts to destroy the life of our country.
Unfortunately, there are wounded and dead… My condolences to the families and friends!
But the evil state has no missiles that are more powerful than our will to save lives, support each other and win.
I thank everyone who defends our cities, our people, our sky! I am grateful to all our warriors, rescuers, doctors, local authorities, volunteers… to everyone involved in eliminating the consequences of Russian terror!
I am grateful to the port workers who do their best to preserve our infrastructure! To the builders and repair teams who help people restore normal living conditions!
Together we will make it through this terrible time. And we will withstand the attacks of Russian evil.

How Lindsey Graham shaped Trump’s wars | The Global Story

Published

on

Senator Lindsey Graham spent decades as one of Washington’s most prominent foreign policy hawks – a fierce opponent of Russia, relentless advocate for Israel and supporter of Iranian regime change.

Graham’s funeral this week drew the likes of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and both men took the opportunity to meet with Donald Trump in an effort to keep the president invested in the wars that both their countries are fighting.

On today’s episode, we speak to the BBC’s Washington Correspondent Daniel Bush and documentary filmmaker Alex Holder, who has rare access to Lindsey Graham to unpack how the late senator helped shape Trump’s foreign policy approach.

On the frontline of Israeli settler violence in the West Bank | BBC News

In the Occupied West Bank, the isolated Palestinian village of Al-Mughayyir has seen more Israeli settler outposts appearing around it in recent years.

These outposts are illegal under both Israeli and international law. BBC Correspondent Lucy Williamson spent a week there, talking to Palestinians about the attacks by Israeli settlers.

Many Palestinians in the West Bank say that Israeli soldiers support settlers during these attacks.

Police fight gangs, guns and corruption in Ecuador’s war on drugs | BBC News

Published

There is a state of emergency in Ecuador – the latest in a series – as the country battles local drug gangs with links to international cartels. Once one of South America’s most peaceful corners, Ecuador now has a murder rate that is one of the highest in the world.

The country has become the gateway for about 70% of the cocaine reaching the US and Europe – including the UK. The drug floods in from neighbouring Colombia and Peru, the two biggest cocaine producers in the world.

The BBC’s Orla Guerin has been at the heart of the war on drugs in Duran, one of the most gang-controlled cities in Ecuador.
