Welcome to Compos Mentis- where we discuss mythology, arts, history, geography, science, language and anything else we want to talk about. Æ, ȝ, Ↄ, Ⱶ, þ. No, your computer isn’t malfunctioning- these are just a few of the irregular characters that once had a place in the English/Latin Alphabet. Today, we’re going back to Elder Futhark, Claudius, Elmo and beyond to recap some of the strangest rejects of our language, tracking how these lost letters shaped the way we write and speak to this day.
