Ukraine needs more time for Russia counter-offensive says Zelensky – BBC News

Published

on

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his country needs more time to launch a much-anticipated counter-offensive against Russian forces, as its military awaits the delivery of promised aid.

The expected attack could be decisive in the war, redrawing frontlines that, for months, have remained unchanged.

It will also be a crucial test for Ukraine, eager to prove that the weapons and equipment it has received from the West can result in significant battlefield gains.

It's not like the landing in Normandy in 1945. The Ukrainian soldiers know what they are doing, supported by their excellent reconnaissance skills. No need to give advice. Too many people are already doing this on internet, while the only experience they have is playing Call of Duty… Slava Ukraini!

A proper LOSER speaks like that – no counter offensive is gonna do it, Bahmut will return to be Artemovsk and all the Cocainsky's friends and conspirators will be forgotten …
The only thing that is not like a "Hollywood" movie is that this story will not end happily for you or "your" people (Zelenky Cocainsky is not Ukrainian, let's be honest, but it is stupid enough to sell himself to Biden's cocaine driven son and other corrupt psychopaths) …

Since 2014 the power in Kyiv is in hands of neo-nazi, fans of Stepan Bandera, chauvinists, warmongers. Everyone knows that in Europe. The entire politics in Europe knows that. Kyiv use methods known in Third Reich. This is despicable to send weapon to Kyiv. Dishonour to everyone who aid Kyiv chauvinists. This resembles appesement politics towards Hitler 80 years ago. I'm 26 years old and I'm disgusted.

The Azov Battalionis a far-right]] all-volunteer infantry military unit forming part of military reserve of National Guard of UkraineThe unit is based in Mariupol in the Azov Sea coastal region.[9] It saw its first combat experience recapturing Mariupol from pro-Russian separatists forces in June 2014. Initially a volunteer militia, formed as the Azov Battalion on 5 May 2014 during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine, Azov has since been incorporated into and is armed by Ukraine's Ministry of Internal Affairs. All members of the unit are under contract of National Guard of Ukraine. The Azov Battalion has been labelled neo-Nazi, "patriots", "a far-right Ukrainian militia" German ZDF television observed Azov battalion fighters wearing helmets with swastikas and "the 'SS runes' of Hitler's infamous black-uniformed elite corps", and on other occasions some of the soldiers have been reported to have SS tattoos. Spokesmen and other members of the Azov Battalion and government officials have denied that the organization has any neo-Nazi or white supremacist beliefs; although a spokesman did state that "10% to 20% of the group's members are Nazis". The regiment's commander and founder is Andriy Biletsky who in the past made statements about "crusade" of "White races" against "Semitic Untermenschen"]and is a leader of a Ukrainian organisation called the Social National Assembly which according to the BBC has "typical neo-Nazi narrative"] Its polished English-language social media pages and far-right ideology have attracted fighters from other locations in Europe. On 11 June 2015 the US House of Representatives passed amendments blocking any training of Azov by US forces, citing its neo-Nazi background as the reason. On 26 June, Canadian defense minister declared as well that training by Canadian forces or support would not be provided to Azov this is who we are arming these animals

Jailed HK activist Joshua Wong pleads guilty to foreign collusion | BBC News

Published

on

Prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy campaigner Joshua Wong has pleaded guilty to collusion with foreign entities, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison under Beijing’s sweeping National Security Law (NSL).

The 29-year-old, who has become the poster child for political activism in Hong Kong, is already serving a sentence of four years and eight months after being convicted of subversion – another NSL violation – in late 2024.

The court said Wong would be sentenced at a later date. His earlier jail term is due to end early next year.

Wong was at the forefront of the Umbrella Movement in 2014 and massive pro-democracy protests in 2019.

The latest charge accuses Wong of conspiring with other campaigners, including exiled activist Nathan Law, to ask foreign countries and entities outside China to impose sanctions or blockades against Beijing.

US targets Larak Island while Iran strikes air bases in Jordan | BBC News

Published

on

Iran and the US have traded strikes after American forces attacked two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

The US strike is the first known attack on Iran since President Donald Trump paused a renewed military campaign in late July.

Iran said it had struck US military bases in Jordan in response, with Jordan’s army saying it had intercepted eight missiles early on Monday morning.

Iran’s state TV also said the Iranian army had targeted an air base in the UAE with drones, however, the UAE’s Ministry of Defence denied the reports that Al-Minhad Air Base had been targeted as “unfounded”. The UAE did confirm it shot down a drone.
