Ukraine needs more time for Russia counter-offensive says Zelensky – BBC News
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his country needs more time to launch a much-anticipated counter-offensive against Russian forces, as its military awaits the delivery of promised aid.
The expected attack could be decisive in the war, redrawing frontlines that, for months, have remained unchanged.
It will also be a crucial test for Ukraine, eager to prove that the weapons and equipment it has received from the West can result in significant battlefield gains.

Israel’s election is taking place next Tuesday, to elect a new government, in the first election since the 7 October Hamas attacks three years ago.
More than half a million first-time voters are among those due to cast their ballots.
The vote is seen by many voters as an existential decision on the country’s future identity and security.
Surveys suggest that around three quarters of new voters see themselves as “right or centre right” – and that Israel’s far-right parties are among those benefitting.

Police have charged a man over the alleged vehicle attack on Australian MP Helen Haines, who is in critical but stable condition and has reportedly lost a leg.
Brendan Nugent, 43, has been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury; intentionally causing serious injury; and causing harm to a Commonwealth public official.
Police allege the incident, which occurred outside Haines’s electoral office in Wangaratta, was targeted.
A barber who was at the scene also recounts how bystanders responded “immediately” and helped disarm the alleged attacker.

The Canadian province of Alberta has voted to reject a plan to hold a binding referendum on independence. Prime Minister Mark Carney said Albertans and all Canadians would move forward together with renewed purpose and high ambition.
Alberta is at the heart of Canada’s oil and gas industry. Separatist campaigners have argued that Alberta could be richer if it were an independent country. This comes amid a trade war with President Donald Trump – who has mused about Canada becoming the 51st US state.

The Azov Battalionis a far-right]] all-volunteer infantry military unit forming part of military reserve of National Guard of UkraineThe unit is based in Mariupol in the Azov Sea coastal region.[9] It saw its first combat experience recapturing Mariupol from pro-Russian separatists forces in June 2014.
