European Super League: Uefa and Fifa rules banning breakaway league ‘unlawful’ says court | BBC News
Banning clubs from joining a European Super League was unlawful and Uefa and Fifa are “abusing a dominant position”, the European Court of Justice has said.
It comes after a case was brought by the ESL and its backers claiming Uefa and Fifa were breaking competition law by threatening to sanction those who joined the breakaway league.
Europe’s highest court found against the governing bodies, but added that did not mean a breakaway league would “necessarily be approved”.
The verdict will be seen as a blow to the authority of Uefa and Fifa and how they govern the game.

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

My heart goes out to UEFA. Kind and dilligent officials who would never turn a blind eye to hundreds of FFP charges(City and PSG). Is there anything worse than UEFA not getting the chance to rig matches and knockout draws 😢. Seriously though, the European Super League is bad but UEFA need to stop acting like martyrs.

Premier league clubs are trying too hard to win trophies,sign players,engage in the transfer market,sell players,compete,sell tickets,engage in title races,make the transfer facilities good,make the stadiums good etc.
Hopefully the super league will restrict clubs on how many trophies they can win,how many players they can sign,how many players they can sell,how good their transfer facilities can be,how many seats their stadiums can have,how many staff employees they can hire and if they can pay their players wages.

I don't know why does it matter now. All but 3 clubs have backed out of the project.
Football was always free, until the Super League came around.
It is just unethical that there's no criteria what so ever to be qualified into that league. I guess the pile of lawyers and the companies they represent won. But victory will be short lived.
The fans don't want it. What you gonna do about it. Force it down their throats? No one's gonna support it. This will be a disaster project.

Well, the reason those clubs wanted to start a new league was greed. You are forgetting that clubs are companies. They rebelled against limitations in sponsorship/advertisement that were in place to the benefit of supporters. This is nothing to celebrate.

The superleague is a money grab. Or better, like NBA, there is a huge industry owned by big enterprises, that stays in for ever and their clubs are having a monopoly on TV broadcast, marketing, merchandise rights. Those same clubs does not have any ambition to develop sport nor help smaller leagues to grow new talents. Instead small clubs will get robbed of their talents and gave peanuts for compensations. Currently with Fifa and Uefa, all clubs get some money, although still the giants eat a big part of the cake, but still national federation get cash and they pay for the development of the sport so young talents can compete and develop the sporting culture. Currently is not ideal, but still more democratic as a superleague. If this will happen is like Amazon for ecommerce. A lot of small leagues and clubs will get defaulted.

Ban players from playing for their countries if they play in a super league, as cricket did with the Packer Circus and those who went on tour of apartheid South Africa. Any team then entering a Super League would then find their squads fractured and their value decimated.
