Idk why I was surprised that they know Doctor Who. It’s a British show. But I love it! I’ve wanted to know what the fish and custard tastes like.

Of course sweet works with meat —- applesauce with fried pork chops, sweet-spicy BBQ sauce with any meat, pepper jelly with pork loin, etc etc etc! 🐷

Ben, your pronunciation of biltong is not quite there. Try it like "bill" + "tong" and it'll be spot on 👍

Stop dipping dinner ingredients into desserts!! They’re not meant to go together that’s why they are part of different meals!! You’re not cool or edgy putting things together you’re just a threat to society

Another great flavor pair is red wine vinegar on mashed potato’s

Oh beef jerky and raspberry jam reminds me of a steak I made once! I had homemade leftover lime raspberry preserves and I LOVE sweet and savory combos, so I made a steak and served it with butter and preserves on top and it was delicious. Highly recommend

Rosemary and esspresso is another amazing but odd coffee combo! I drink it all the time. Easy to make a rosemary syrup by steeping rosemary in a simple syrup of water and sugar that you boil

    Interesting…no knowledge of weird pairings.😅

Ever eat Ikea meatballs with lingon berry jelly on the side? Pretty much the same idea with the beef and raspberry jam. Not sure why you guys were surprised.

Sweet and sour (homemade) plum jam with raw onion was my go-to weird combination growing up. The jam also worked well with salamy and/or very salty cheese.

I love cheese and jam sandwiches, cheese honey, jam on Yorkshire pudding , rhubarb raw dipped in sugar and fruit roll up wrapped around a pickle

The Jam and Jerky aren't at all surprising. Just think Candied Bacon. Or apple sauce and pork.

Garlic bread, philadelphia cheese and cranberry sauce or strawberry jam nom nom nom not too crazy lol x

Crunchy peanut butter and Sharp whole gerkins (not sliced bread and butter pickles – they need more crunch)

Hot Pepper Jelly and Vanilla Ice Cream

Did the rose gold whisk (hanging on the board behind Ben & Jamie) come from Barry's house? 🤣
P.S. I remember Ben using a rose gold whisk with a chain on the end of the handle in a past episode, too.

My grandmother would drink a cup of black coffee with a chunk of cheddar in the bottom. When she was almost done she’d use a spoon to spread the softened cheese on crackers for a snack. Yum. And my mother loved banana and mayonnaise sandwiches on crappy white supermarket bread. I still eat them every now and then.

Try mixing white miso with softened butter. You can keep a batch in the fridge if you don't just devour it all at once. Try on hot toast, toss with sauteed vegetables, on fish or in noodles. Savoury and buttery goodness. Perhaps not that weird a combo but not everyone might think of it, and the butter tempers the salty fermentation of the miso. Another thing I love is to have avocado sliced on a plate with a little good quality soy sauce and black pepper. Perhaps a squeeze of lemon or lime. So good. In terms of jerky, try Korean galbi jerky if you can find it. It already has a sweet savoury marinade (you will know what I mean if you have had Korean galbi short ribs) so you don't need the jam – it is totally moreish, and is a little softer than the tough jerky styles. Not reminiscent of a UK roast dinner, but really good too. So-called weird flavour combos are funny because every culture has a totally normal combo that makes other people raise eyebrows before trying it. Ripe mango with chili and condensed milk? Yes please. Sausages with curry ketchup? Can be really good (and also bad). Deep fried battered fish with mushy peas and chips….depends – the highs and lows there are totally dramatic.

I dont understand how anyone is suprised by jam and jerky, have you not ever had lingonberry jam or blackcurrant jelly with a sunday roast?

  23. @raideurng2508

    January 13, 2024 at 5:45 pm

I knew Jerky and jam would work. Throw some peanuts in there too and it's basically a trail mix. Same reason jam on bacon or cranberries on turkey works.

One of the dishes I made often for my boys when they were little was lamb rack with a homemade raspberry or strawberry glaze. Was amazing.

  26. @SamLyn

I’m honestly baffled why they thought jerky with raspberry would be awful/funny. Maybe it’s an American thing but I regularly make fruit sauces and glazes for all kinds of meats (think fig and pork chops or raspberry glaze and steak). Maybe they don’t do that as often in the UK? It just doesn’t sound that weird to me and Way less weird than some of the other combos.

  27. @Luckmann

    January 13, 2024 at 5:45 pm

I'm surprised at how shocked you all were at jerky-and-raspberry-jam, considering how common meats and lingonberry jam is in my native Sweden.

  28. @Dutch2905

    January 13, 2024 at 5:45 pm

Growing up we always had beef dripping Yorkshire puddings which i would have cold the next day with jam. The jerky/ jam option is the next step that i may have to try!

The last 2 are definitely the best and make the most sense. Especially the raspberry jam and jerky. It makes me think of teriyaki or glazed pork or beef roast.
