People forget, the british are actually very culinarily creative. Just look at how the country made do with rationing, and how creative they were. Should check some pre-20th century cookbooks out

January 9, 2024 at 5:04 am
Why, oh why? A pie is like a portable feast, encased in deliciousness, making it the ultimate meal for those on the move. But putting a case in a bap? Now that's more confusing than a Rubik's cube with missing colours!
@christiankirkenes5922

"It's just missing a few portions of veg."
No Ben, no it isn't.
@tildessmoo
January 9, 2024 at 5:04 am
I feel like the pie needed a splash of Worcestershire sauce, but then I'm not English, so I could be wrong.
Also, suet is specifically the fat from around the organs, especially the kidneys. It has a higher melting temperature, which turns out to be quite important for texture, especially in pie crusts and steamed or boiled puddings.

I can't believe they didn't cook the meat sauce first before putting it in the pie casing…

There isn’t anything else that better portrays English cuisine than a Wigan Slappy 😂 it’s cheap, filling and is made of mostly nationally sourced ingredients making it convenient and ingenious! English cuisine isn’t fancy and pretentious, it’s hearty and filling and is adaptable to suit cultural interests like sports and social activities!

I've never knew about this or tried it, but the only way I can picture eating this is on a rainy Sunday at your local football club. A pint of watery larger in one hand and a Wigan slapper in the other…. just perfect… and I don't even like football 😂😂

I feel like you missed the opportunity to compare! I imagine it'd be pretty easy to get the ingredients for a fully-traditional version (presumably premade pies and baps), certainly easier than with any of the other videos in the series thus far.
