I have never even heard having kale on christmas, the ham isn't glazed here (we chuck the whole behind in the oven and coat it with mustard and breadcrumbs) and lanttulaatikko should look more like orangish mashed potatoes with crumb topping . As a finn i didn't realize it was supposed to be a finnish meal 😅

I was arguing with you about that Venezuelan one. To me, thats a pastele, from Puerto Rico.

The tourtière I knew straight away. Gah childhood. Yum

I'm in South Africa and it's one week from Christmas, so it's sweltering. Afrikaners love meat and we usually have at least 2 types for Christmas lunch, but unless we're having a braai, most of the meat is cold. So you'll have maybe gammon and leg of lamb, both cold, with cold side dishes. If we braai we'll still have cold side dishes – otherwise you'll expire celebrating Our Saviour's birth.

My grandmother was from Quebec and made meat pies every Christmas. As soon as I saw it in this video I almost teared up.

As a history teacher I have to say if you are going to call the creators of a dish "Slaves" don't sugarcoat with "landowners" call them what they were "Enslavers" or "Slaveholders" that's what they were.

I've heard of the Feast of Seven Fishes, so I actually got Italy!

Rutabeggars for Christmas? I don't think I really want that.

Had hallacas for the 1st time last year, thanks to the wonderful family of my Venezuelan boyfriend. I loved them, but dear, oh dear, do they prepare loads of them.. 😅 Nevertheless – best part of the Christmas dish, imo. 🤤

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

I've been binge-watching your videos lately, and today I got this one suggested. Imagine my surprise when I saw Hallacas featured 😂❤ It was exciting to see a piece of my country in your table.

I love the fact that dishes like the Venezuela one, although it came out of necessity the workers were eating better tasting food than their very wealthy owners/employers (sorry unsure of the history involved here). It's what makes Chinese food so tasty, the very poor had to make edible food from what was otherwise rubbish so today with good quality ingredients their food tastes stunning.

After living in Finland for 20 years I was very confused by this. I would recommend googling a bit beforehand and at least looking at pictures of the food. Honey glazed ham and kale is not very "Finnish". And the "lanttulaatikko" isn't a standalone dish. It comes with its bretheren; the "porkkanalaatikko" (carrot) and the "imelletty perunalaatikko" (potato) – which is quite tricky to make…

you have to do colombian buñuelos for this year

  16. @GoodByeKitty995

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

Doesn’t feel like Christmas without some tourtière 🙃🙃

Hope you can try putobumbong and bibingka as Christmas food from Around the World.

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

Weird to soften and almost romantacize the language when walking about colonialism and slavery. They were definetly celebrating but weren't celebrating Christmas…

In the context of this video:
    Immigrants > Colonizers
    Land Owners > Slave Owners

  19. @markevans9188

    "level pegging" very britishism

  20. @jorgeivanatencio6708

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

Algo tarde pero me gustaría agregar que la comida de Venezuela, es conocida como tamales en otras partes de América

  21. @dragamboazulinqiacupuntura122

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

So proud for someone attempting to make hallacas… shout out from Venezuela

  22. @ethancampbell215

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

I like how the traditional Christmas dinners differ between countries based on the ingredients that are accessible in some countries that may not be accessible in others. Englands tradition is to have a roasted turkey as the protein whereas Australias tradition is grilled shrimp and Hawaii are probably still stuck eating Spam on Christmas because Spam have stayed in business because the state makes up the majority of their total sales 😂

  23. @rovan8348

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

The 7 fishes! I just finished watching season 2 of The Bear as well 🤣

  24. @oonanas6507

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

Oh man! You shoulda done the carrot casserole for Finland instead of the swede one. Swede is never anyone’s favorite, we just kinda always have to have it (usually we’ve got the Swede, carrot and potato casseroles)

  25. @dramis_gaming2189

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

This is not a tourtière. Tourtière is made with two to three kind of meat (Beef, chicken and pork) and contains potato. This is a pâté à la viande (meat pie) and would even say shepard pie. Nobody in Québec eat a pâté à la viande with mirepoix. Sometimes beef is swaped with moose and chicken with grouse. Do not hesitate if you want a real recipe!!!

  26. @thomasg6461

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

My go to meats for my tortiere recipe are beef and lamb.

  27. @raideurng2508

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

As soon as Ebbers said "cranberries" I knew it was US or Canada.

Watching Jamie win makes me cringe, but when he loses, my happiness level goes up… BHAhahaha

  29. @TheWhiteCrest

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

i dont know why i got Italy correct, clues were pasta and raw tuna tar tar… no idea why, never been, never tried, perhaps the colors gave it away for me. grats to Jamie~

Show do the What Country Is it from" but do the miles from and the few "total" game miles win but do it also over the season with a leader board.

  31. @roxanneturpin620

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

    Feast of the Seven Fishes!!

  32. @mackenzietowler2488

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

My family eats the first one every year on Christmas Eve and I’ve never known it’s actual name, we just call it Christmas Eve Pie. I love it!

  33. @pontuswastle2894

    January 8, 2024 at 2:20 am

I’m a swede living in Finland and this dish is my favourite of the finish Christmas table. I might be bias because it has swede in it 😊. But the swedish christmas table is way superior (no bias there)
