SEASONAL Recipe Relay Challenge | Pass It On S1 E4 | Sorted Food

Published

on

Sticking to the brief seems to be a bit of a challenge for the guys. When given the brief to use seasonal ingredients, they’ve made a Pulled Roast Chicken, with Cous Cous and Mediterranean Veg.

The dish screams Summer…

…not.

This format never ends well but you guys LOVE it and we LOVE watching the chaos back! Enjoooooy!

Honestley I thought Barry did ok, they needed a carb to bring all the random ingrdiants together and Couscous was probably the only one possible with the time constraints

"Hello everyone. I didn't think minty potatoes worked with romesco sauce…so I hid them…and I hid them under the counter." -James 🤣🤣🤣

Man, it's been years since I first watched this video, but the subtitles are just TERRIBLE. Every other word is just [INAUDIBLE] when it's pretty plain what they're saying. Glad they seem to have picked up the slack on these as time has gone on.

I don't understand why James thought there was no dish. Some spring veggies along a roasted chicken with romesco sauce sounds perfect and seasonal!!! Why hide the potatoes and radish? Any seasoned veggies with some herbs and spices would go well with a roasted chicken.

    No one use thermometer

Romesco sauce with roasted chicken, fried aubergine and home-made croutons sounded really good. I did not think "Mr. Seasonal Cous Cous" had time to screw it up – but boy, was I wrong.🤣

Was that delight I saw on Ben's face when he thought about the balls needed to just toss a whole chicken in the oven on this kind of schedule?

Edit: Also really fun to see James be the one having a panic attack in the middle. 😛

Edit: aaaand Barry threw in the peas. 😀

Edit: and Mike appears not to have noticed the existence of said peas in the back. 😀

These challenges are hilarious. I am sure this was tasty, but looking at the final result I would never guess it was a seasonal summer dish. Probably autumn on a weekday without two chefs contributing sorry, ha. Oh to see a roasted whole chicken (congrats Jamie) pulled apart like that as just the breast in shreds without the golden skin, ouch. (BTW love the hilarity). They needed more green and vibrant colours and some freshness, perhaps a really crisp salad. A great well balanced crisp salad with a citrus-y garlic and roast chicken with colourful roast veg, to me sounds great. Not ground breaking, but impressive as a blind relay with a short period of time. I would like to try making a romesco sauce vinaigrette for the summer salad, that seemed to be everyone's favourite bit when they tasted the sauce by itself. Or maybe a chilled gazpacho? And a cold beer? : ) Point is, enjoy the summer and have fun cooking with amazing fresh ingredients with your friends. Also try not to freak out in the kitchen. It should be a happy place. Maybe for one episode a summer outdoor BBQ challenge on a charcoal grill? During one of the few sunny days in England? I am sure the production team would love that.

Let's just touch raw chicken, and then touch butter but not use it all.
That butter is now asking for trouble.
