The Vinaigrier would be good for the kind of person who keeps sourdough starter or makes their own pickles.

… I thought Ben gave Mike an urn and I was concerned. Might get my own, though! 😁

Saw a set of different herbs in tins . Would be great for a gift or pretentious

I know people who make vinegar from fruit scraps and prior vinegar in gallon pickle jars. That urn thing seems overly fussy. Fun episode seeing the foodie gifts. 😊
@davidvallard8638
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
Why is it that all of these gifts seem like things Ben would like or use.
@lisametauro7199
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
And why is it we would worry if the gift receiver didn't realize how much we paid for it? That is not what matters. Expense does not equal satisfaction.

Just… Might be a good idea to put a big warning up before advertising a company that gifts alcohol. That's not a great gift at all, sorry.

1 – I often wear the same shirt and don't realize it when doing things that make it look "weird" so I feel it Spaf.
2 – The HydroHerb is one I'll be looking for in the US.
3 -The Vinager making pot, maybe in a year or so.

As a child I would take an empty bottle to the local grocer who would fill it from a cask 😊

£20 to grow one pot of herb 😳
I'll grow mine at £1 per pack of seeds and have it year round thanks.

Olive oils are very unique. I live in California and there are a lot of boutique olive oil makers. Varietals make a huge difference in flavor and nuance. I personally love one with a very grassy flavor but it is not what I would cook with. I use it as a dipping sauce or dressing. I usually have 5-6 different olive oils for different purposes. Olive oil tastings are very normal here.

Wow. Americans really miss the inherent subsidization of everything. You Brits find strange things expensive, and the difference is obviously taxes. We “fought and left England” over taxes, and your citizens still get more for your tax dollar.
The American Experiment has failed, quite gloriously*.

1:00 it is my belief that a better educated olive oil consumer would only be slightly more insufferable than an oenophile. Yes, I said, oenophile—differing from those who enjoy wine, by their inherent pomposity.
That said: a better education in olive oils will likely make you intolerably insufferable to your dinner mates, and unable to enjoy food in restaurants, ever.
I have had said education, and I cannot say that I am glad of it. I hate the food here (houston), but visitors keep saying the food is great. My palate is better educated, and they punish me for it. The people of texas have extremely low standards, and terribly bad taste.

My brother actually just got me a set of infused olive oils for Christmas. I used the garlic and butter flavor in some potatoes for Christmas dinner.

I just downloaded the app and it's incredible. Great job guys putting all the recipes together with audio and visual steps. I've only made a couple of the recipes so far but they are both great! Keep up the good work and keep on bringing us these quick easy and tasty meals. Life saver for me and my family.

I don't even like vinegar (other than in pickles, I substitute citrus), and I want to try DIY vinegar because I think it would taste better! 😀

I’d be happy to get the olive oil or the vinegar thing

Vinagrier got me thinking… why?
Isn't your average vinegar a LOT cheaper than the cheapest cider in the UK?
@sabaamini6021
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
Really want the vinegar thing
@edwardbarton6753
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
Still baffles me how people just drink oil or dunk bread in it and enjoy it. It’s oil, it’s gross as a condiment, coats your mouth
@dearlivg.4950
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
the second I finished this video, I went to a second hand website and bought a never used before vinaigrier for 30£ 🙂 it's smaller than the one here (26 cm) but it's exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for this discovery!

The problem with grocery store-bought potted herbs, is they're potted in really poor compost. If you buy one, and pot it on immediately, you can keep it growing substantially longer than the usual 3wk before it dies because the soil it came with is trash.

I was excited by the Hydro-herbs, but, its only available for shipping within the UK, not to the USA
@oirandochu
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
You guys sniffing that homemade vinegar like a bottle of poppers really tickles the schmancy of my fancy. ❤
@tom_something
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
If you had the vinegar kit and got tired of using it to make vinegar, it's still a nice serving carafe or conversation piece.

Ben: We're gonna make our own vinegar.
Me: Oooh.
Ben: breaks out cans of cider and raw vinegar for a starter
Me: I'm gonna have to confiscate your chef's licence.

December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
you can cut your own wine bottles down to that really easy, you just need high grade alcohol and some string 😉
@annashen2152
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
The one to make vinegar looks to be good vessel for kombucha 😅
@emilyman869
December 22, 2023 at 2:29 am
that herb bottle thing is a waste of money. get pots from the shop, split them into smaller pots, and keep the soil moist but not soggy.
you can also take cuttings and put them in water and they'll soon start to grow roots – no need for this fancy cut bottle business
you can do all this for a few quid let alone £20

I have honestly made vinegar with a layer of apple scraps water and a spoon full of sugar.
