Why is the UK Running out of Food (and is it Brexit)?

Published

on

NordVPN: https://nordvpn.com/tldr

Over the last few weeks, the UK has become accustom to finding empty shelves in supermarkets. The thing is, that unlike during COVID, this is a fairly UK specific phenonium. So why is Britain running out of food, and is Brexit to blame?

The most important thing that should be on everyone's mind currently should be to invest in different sources of income that doesn't depend on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in various stocks, Gold, silver and digital currencies. I never imagined that a few thousand dollars per month would add up. However, it is. I've made around $870,000 since 2020.

Eating seasonal and local produce is always a good idea. Support your local farmers, use farm shops. Usually it's not even much more expensive than buying stuff from the supermarket.

Honestly studying economics i that most of the problem s can be traced due to goverment intervention. If you look oraund a bit you will find something that manipulates the incentives.

The main reason for voting for Brexit was raging racism in a lot of stupid people. Suffrage should only be granted after passing an exam or given the right IQ. Why should intelligent people be made to suffer because of the idiotic choices of stupid people? I remember seeing all the knuckle draggers on their way to the polling station and thinking 'That's it, these morons are going to ruin our economy just because Farage et al have persuaded them we're being 'swarmed' with immigrants.'

Uk doesn't really have a great geography. Here in Australia we have both tropical and temperate regions so can grow all our own food. Last year we had major floods across the country. Shortage of potatoes, lettuce and tomatoes. Thankfully we're back to normal. Many South Pacific nations especially Vanuatu travel here to work on farms. They can earn enough to build a home in their countries in one season. There's also pathways to live in Australia. The islands near the Uk are Iceland and Ireland. I assume they would want a decent income to pick fruit and vegetables

ive seen MANY people, mainly Americans, seeing this as painting us as pure neanderthals. Also, maybe look further than your local Sainsbury's before stating the whole of the UK is having a food shortage.

You shouldn't be consuming any food which was produced or grown in the UK, our air, water and soil is all deadly toxic. Most of our food is ultra processed and our food and safety standards are un-enforceable. The only safe food to eat is unprocessed fresh food that's been grown outside of the UK preferably in the EU, if you come here as a tourist do NOT touch the water, it's full of poison and can kill you so you shouldn't go swimming and should also bring all of your own food to eat and your own water to drink.

Can you give an update about the labour situation currently in the UK? Is it advisable to move to the UK for work? There’re many available roles to apply to, however is it a good decision to apply and work in the UK?

  22. @JamieZero7

    December 20, 2023 at 4:40 pm

Biggest issue is we have 500k extra people where they weren't before. Uk is small and can't support these people. They need to go.

  23. @shaz7132

    December 20, 2023 at 4:40 pm

Reading between the lines, is it more the Tories trying to fiddle visa's to win elections, and also making really bad economic decisions because of self preservation and incompetence. Thus Brexit is less a problem than the Tory Government is.

Of course, it is Brexit. Where are the foreigners that do the food collection in the fields? This is a joke.  WantedbBrexit…now you have it. Ask for the natives now to do the small and hard jobs they never wanted—no more staying at home and receiving benefits without doing anything.
Everything was perfect. You shot your own foot.

It hurts my brain that most of the issues seem to be climate related, but most of the comments are doubling down on the brexit instead as if staying in the eu would have prevented every single one of these issues 🤦‍♂️
Morocco isn't an EU country, fertiliser and energy costs have spiked for various non-eu related reasons. Instead of letting all the food going to waste because a lack of migrant seasonal workers, they could make a better offer to incentize uk citizens to work there, or at least invest in some new technology. Even if the UK was still in the EU, we would still be experiencing most of these issues.
