I am from the Czech Republic and it is mandatory to have an ID with photo when you turn 15 and you can vote from 18. So everyone has an ID with photo. So it is interesteting for me to see that it is a new thing and potentially a problematic thing to have ID with photo to vote.

Local Council elections should NOT be muddied up by national issues or national party, ie Labor/Cons issues. The council MUST be measured on the job it does for its constituents NOT, eg, on if it supported Brexit. If I were a candidate and a party member and the party told me that the machine would be visiting my electoral area with say, Sunak, in support – I'd say don't bother.

I've argued for years that the way local MPs are nominated and elected to the "UK" parliament is wrong, even worse here in Australia due to there being States too. (In that respect England is under repped) local councils yes, state legislature no (Scotland does, NI does, Wales does but England no), Commonwealth (Fed or UK wide) yes.

That feeling when "UK Council Elections" actually just mean English Council Elections. TLDR on their English supremacist bias yet again.

I only voted for British candidates with British blood. The current PM is not legitimate, and the British people are going to send that message with these elections.

I think it's harmful to denigrate the importance of local elections. Sure, if you are looking at this as an unaffected political theorist, they're not important, but if you happen to actually live in this country then your local council is in many ways more important than national. It's this kind of attitude that is why we see so little turnout in local elections, and then people wonder why their local council isn't doing what they want…

In Canada, municipal (county, region, city, township and town councils) elections are VERY important. It is the municipality who physically provide government services that the province or federal governments pay for.

Wouldn't it be naïve to think that voting in a system that got us in the dire situation we are in today, will somehow magically get us out of it? One might come to assume your topics and content are being influenced by the very people who are busy with this ongoing planetary coup.

From Canada. I always found it strange how Voter ID is such a big issue in the US and now the UK. People claim it will hurt young, old, poor, everyone, and their mother. The rule in Canada is that you bring a government-issued Photo-ID to vote like a driver's license or medical card. There are two exceptions: you can also bring two documents that confirm your identity and one needs to have your address on it, OR you can vote without an ID only if you have someone else assigned to your polling station vouch for you (you can only vouch for one person unless it's for people in long-term care facilities, so it's mostly for the elderly). The requirements are more stringent for those who don't have a photo ID or even an ID at all, but checking that you are who you say you are to be able to vote is not discrimination.

Countries like us in South Africa and had free and fair elections in 1991 and since then all elections were I thought the idea was a must to be certified that is how we can be sold there is no fault in our country how come people in other countries do not want to be identified with go do the election polls
