For the sous vide bags, if you intend on reusing them, then make the bag longer so you only lose 5cm of plastic each time you use it – way less wastage.

I like the pan. I'd like to own a knife I can keep, my parents don't trust themselves with them, so apparently I can't have one, which is something I think is stupid.

You can reuse the vacuum seal bags if your careful about where you cut to open them and hand wash them in between uses

I feel like the majority of these ‘higher quality’ gadgets they review are designed and manufactured on the premise that the inventor is trying to resolve a problem which doesn’t really exist, that £90 plant pot is a prime example. If people want fresh herbs, they would be better off buying the individual pots and save lots of money and just incorporate the requirements of the plants into their daily routines rather than rely on a product to do them out of convenience🤷🏼 it’s just my opinion but these gadgets perform functions that resolve issues that aren’t really typical problems and are mostly unnecessary for the majority of average home cooks

Vacuum sealers are for preservation mainly. Buy in bulk and freeze. Grow your own and freeze it. It works on chip/crisp bags too.

We have a vacuum sealer and use it to portion meats etc before freezing it prevents freezer burn. We also use it to keep leftovers for later in the week. Great cost saver.

the plants knows it self how much water it needs. no problem as long the roots are not submerged in water, and drowns. the secret is that the thing never fills up under the plants to a nivea where the roots would drown.

It's very very obvious the click and grow light bar is too short. I think that's pretty glaring design failure in an object with like three features.

I bought a vacuum sealer last year and wouldn't want to miss it. I vacuum cheese and sausage in small portions or vegetables or fruit for smoothies and freeze them. I have also used it to freeze entire meals. I use a tube of foil that I seal according to the size. That way you have less waste. You can also wash out the used bags and use them several times.

According to there website, the pods are designed around the amount of water the machine gives, so each of the different plants have different soil composition perfect the amount of "rain" they get
So instead of adjusting the water to the plants they adjust the plants to the water.
Still havent actually see anyone grow other things though so who knows

De Buyer do equally great pans for a bit less than the one here. Not as artisanal perhaps, but to some (me) more attractive looking.

Dont cut the bags to size, seal them as big as possible, to open them cut as close to the seal as possible. Wash out, dry, use to store extra food.

As someone who gave up using non stick for health & environmental concerns, I'd like to see more of both the chef's & normals using different raw metal pans (particularly carbon steel, but also cast iron). I think it would be really interesting to see how it performs for them and how they're able to take care of it video after video

@AnymMusic
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
honestly, about 95gbp for such a pan seems like a steal when you factor in the decades of use you'd get from them. Like even if it would be 200gbp, at 20 years that's only about 10gbp a year

The reason the vacuum seal can't do liquids is cause lower pressure means things boil at lower temperatures so it might burst
@jinja-ninga97c21
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
That would be a interesting series to see, they get a selection of pan's or pots and they see which one lasts the longest, why that might be and to see what different piece points can get you and what there wear might be

We own the gardening light. Have had them for 5 yrs now. Ours required nutrient added to the water…you didn't show that. We have grown a variety over the yrs. It was expensive to start, we took it out of entertainment budget as my hubs is a hobby gardener. Growing greens in water vs soils results in a thinner green and the nutrient adds a taste we don't love. We converted ours to soil pots at winter 3. We grow all our salad greens, as well as, thyme, basil, and rosemary. Testing a yellow bean plant this year. They would never pay for themselves, but as veggy eaters, it can not be beat for freshness. Also it is a fun hobby to garden in a Canadian winter without going outdoors in minus 15 C.
@JoannaHammond
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
Why would you not grow chillies? I grow them indoors all the time, it's fine. Without that gadget, just get a basic water resovoir plant pot and put it next to the window.

just gonna be pedantic here "edible capsules" would mean you could eat the capsules themselves…

You missed the best features of the sealer — leftovers and bulk buy food! Make large batches of food then divide and seal into smaller portions for the freezer. Bulk buy food on sale, then divide and seal into useable portions.
@trevorreniger5670

Cannot recommend a handheld vacuum sealer strongly enough. $20USD on Amazon. I use it to keep many foods fresh longer (cheeses, bacon, herbs, hard veggies, leftovers), portion and freeze bulk purchases of protein, and prep sous vide. One of my favorite purchases in years. Just in food waste alone, it pays for itself and the bags.
@AnimeLover069
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
If the precision vaccume sealer also sealed ziplock bags, that would reduce the wastage of plastic and ensure a tight seal on ziplocks…frankly I don't see the point. Portion control is great but the amount of plastic pollution…not sure it's worth it.
@djamesc
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
Now 145 pounds. Just outside of what I can justify on a single purchase (by about 95 pounds 😂)
@patmaurer8541
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
Just like zipper bags, flavor seal bags can be washed and reused. Simply cut them as close to the seam as possible when opening, so you still have most of the material. 🙂
Most sealers also come with a vacuum attachment for sealing canning jars. 😀
The sealer is also great for extending the shelf life of foods bought in bulk.

Tomatoes? They need to be pollinated, which bees generally take care of outside. My grandmother once tried to grow tomatoes indoors, but didn't take the pollination into account, so she ended up with utterly beautiful plants but no tomatoes at all.

It might be a good pan but there are far cheaper heavy weight wrought iron pans made in France Germany Austria Spain etc.

2:32 There’s probably an RFID chip in the pod that tells the machine what type of seed it contains.

Sous vide cooking is great – so easy, controlled on your phone…set it and forget it. I got a vacuum sealer and never used it – ziploc bags were fine. One great application is when you go camping. Marinate and sous vide a steak or something at home, throw the ziploc or sealed bag in the cooler, and then warm and sear that item over the camp fire. You know it is already cooked to your liking, and so you just need to add the warmth and taste of the natural campfire for a bit of char and colour stumbling around in the dark.

The vacuum sealer is great if you buy bulk hunt or forage
@KS-gf3tv
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
I sous vide a lot, and I did the vacuum sealer in the beginning. The bags suck and leak every time, at least if you buy a normal, home-style sealer and not a fancy commercial chamber sealer. Just get some vaguely decent freezer bags. They work better, are easier, faster, and just a lot less work. Also, don't put fat in the bag with your steak. I promise you it absolutely ruins it. It sounds like a great idea–I love butter too–but I promise, it just ruins the seasoning.
@Karoline_g

The Click and grow is a neat toy, but each capsule is obnoxiously pricey and they go out of their way to not tell you how to reuse the capsules they come with. (I’ve had a couple of them since the early days.) nearly as obnoxious is that the roots grow through the bottom into the water reservoir and are difficult to get out when changing the capsule for a new plant. It also does better with herbs than fruiting plants. I tried growing the micro tomatoes (because WHO WOULDNT) and got maybe three fruits (the size of my pinky nail) with minimal flavor.
I also had trouble with the light over time. Maybe it’s because mine was an old model, but the light was really fiddle to get positioned just right so that it wouldn’t start flashing.
All that said — it was extremely cool to be able to grow fresh lemon balm in my livingroom where I’ve got very little window light.

I've had a vac packing machine for over 20 years and love it but I bought a sous vide for a year now and my hubby bought me an ever better machine for my birthday.
You've got to try an herded butter turkey breast in a sous vide. Its absolutely amazing. Or in small mason jars I have made some of the best chicken liver mousse/paté I've ever ate.
My family tho loves the pumpkin pie filling and the cheesecake filling in sous vide jars. They've already asked for it for our next family gathering

I grow hydroponically with LED lights. Those teeny tiny things are not bad but not the best for the cost.
@jdmj90
December 18, 2023 at 4:35 pm
I'm just surprised that when they did the vacuum sealer they didn't talk about like all the rest of food storage options stuff like that but just like completely focused on sous vide which I think is an niche application of vacuum packing.

I own a vaccum sealer for food storage. I can buy in bulkand portion it to size for my family.I also do not live in a town to walk to the grocery store.
