US accuses Iran of drone strike on tanker in Indian Ocean | BBC News
The US military says a drone which hit a chemical tanker in the Indian Ocean was launched from Iran.
Iran is also accused of backing Houthi rebels in Yemen who have been launching attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.
The US claims that Iran also backs Hamas, the Palestinian group which attacked Israel on October 7th, leading to the war in Gaza.
Itâs increased fears that the conflict in Gaza could escalate into a wider regional confrontation.

Social media giant Meta has agreed to a $18bn (ÂŖ13.3bn) settlement with US states and territories to resolve claims that Facebook and Instagram harmed children.
A California judge approved the settlement, which Meta must pay to 48 states, plus the District of Columbia and three US territories, marking the company’s largest payment over child safety litigation to date.
Meta will also implement a host of changes aimed at better protecting kids online, which the states had demanded, including default daily time limits and night-time blocks.
Meta has denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement and said on Wednesday that the payment it agreed to “will be distributed in annual instalments over a 10-year period”.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has told the BBC that PC Andrew Harper’s killers will remain behind bars as he announces changes to the early release scheme aimed at easing prison overcrowding.Â
In an exclusive interview with BBC Breakfast, Burnham said anyone convicted of manslaughter will be excluded from changes brought in under the Sentencing Act, which would have made the killers eligible for early release.Â
Burnham said extra prison spaces would be created by deporting “hundreds” of foreign prisoners and releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences.Â

Some of the hostages are at present in Egypt. Hamas moved some of the remaining hostages to Egypt through tunnels located in Rafah Border Crossing.
Some of the hostages, who were released in the first prisoner swap (November 24- December 1st), had been forced to swallow different kind of drugs before being freed. Those drugs had been developed in Russia, Iran and North Korea during the Cold War (1947â1991) in order to punish spies and POWs. The most benign of these drugs make hostages docile. The most evil of them alters severely the brain functions. A good example of this could be seen in the case of Otto Warmbier. Otto was falsely accused of a crime in North Korea. During his imprisonment, he was given drugs (by mouth and intravenously) which altered severely his brain functions. He was released in a terrible condition, and died a few days after his arrival to the United States.
In case of a second prisoner swap, Hamas has the order to give the most evil drugs to some of the remaining hostages.
Through the tunnels in Rafah Crossing, Hamas also receive intelligence information and different kind of weapons; even biological weapons (like the fungus which killed an Israeli soldier yesterday and infected other ten).
