Did occur to me if the main communal fire alarms we're installed on all floors or if we're used at first instance assisting in the evacuation or linked to the tennents intercom system if applicable

There are untouchables involved, so the report will be released on dates like day-before-christmas so that any discussion will be automatically stifled. That's England owned by nobility.

I know we are taught to follow instructions, especially instructions of the police, fire and emergency workers, but I don't know why anyone would stay in a burning building. As soon as I heard about it I would have left. Same with the twin towers. As soon as the one I was in or the other were hit, I would have started to evacuate.

The companies that installed that cladding knew when it was tested beforehand that (quote: ' it goes up like an inferno ' ) All these years later no one has accepted any blame for the deaths of 75 people, including 15 children.
    Absolutely disgusting 😢

Whenever I see any videos about Grenfell fire, I get such a not in my throat. I've watched a few documentaries and other videos of people who recorded with their cell phones, and it's still heartbreaking to watch. 6 years now, and authorities in London still have not started removing cladding on many other buildings. Why do people take so long to do the most obvious, save lives. Prevent another Grenfell fire. Fire took 18 minutes to go from the 4th floor to the 23rd floor. That is incredibly fast, and this same cladding was also on the Tower in Dubai fire on New Years Eve a few years back, which also burned and traveled up the building very quickly. How in Gods name is this cladding still permitted to be put on buildings.

No, you can't blame the living arrangements after a fire for your divorce. I went through somthing similar except with SEVEN family members in one hotel room for a year and my wife and I are still going strong.

People saying "5 years, get over it" are crazy. I live in Sweden and I cannot even get over it. I wasn't even there.

I watched everything unfold during the night from my home in Stockholm. I have been to London and seen Grenfell after the fact. And I cannot stop thinking about it.

I cannot imagine been burnt alive, or losing someone there, or been there and managed to escape, or witnessed it live and trying to help people, the helplessness and heartbreaking witness statements from fire brigade, the aftermath with all the homeless. The constant cold hands from authorities, noone taking responsibility of the refurbishment, the countless houses that still to this day have this cladding.

EVERYONE should be upset. Everyone should still care.

We need names! Name of the person whose decision it was to ignore the recommendations to add safety materials to the cladding, the name of who made the decision to focus on saving money regardless of the safety implications. Those people need to be held accountable.

All of us, whether we vote Labour or Conservative or "remain" vs "leave" have to make sure we reach across political lines and make sure we hold our MPs, whether we voted for them or not, to account for their failures. We need to rethink how we view people who live in these towers or in social housing. We need to make sure it never happens again, and only if we keep those who died in our memories and make sure our politicians know that it is a universal belief in this country that all people, of whatever background, religion or "status" deserve safe housing. Where the law doesn't go far enough then it needs to go further and change. Tenants need to be able to trust in an accountable and fair system where their complaints can be heard; preferably in public. The pursuit of profit must never be placed before human lives.

So many similarities between this story and the South Korean Sewol Ferry. Corporate greed, flouting regulations, and the immediate authorities ultimately telling the victims to "shelter in place" while the ship was slipping beneath the waves. Almost all of the survivors defied the authorities' advice and got the hell out. For the love of God don't listen to the people in charge when your life is on the line, make your own judgement and if what you are told feels wrong, trust in yourself and protect yourself! That is the lesson to take away from these tragedies; no one is coming to save you. The fat suits will mourn and apologize for doing and/or saying the wrong thing. They will weep and feign sorrow, but you will be dead.

This grenfall fire 'inquiry' which is now half a decade old, seems more of a delay attempt at a whitewash than anything else. Dany Cotton's arrogant words, as fire chief, pretty much summarized the prevalent attitude of the powers that be. The remains of the building should be kept, as is, as a permanent reminder 'to all the b s in the world' ( as paul newman said at the conclusion of 'towering inferno').

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
