Starmer makes a deal with Zelensky, as Trump hits out at Europe | BBC Newscast
President Volodymyr Zelensky has been in London to agree a new defence partnership with the UK, with Downing Street hoping to unite “Ukrainian expertise and the UK’s industrial base” to manufacture drones.
But while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Zelensky were meeting one side of the Atlantic, US President Donald Trump was changing his mind on whether he needs Nato support in the Strait of Hormuz again.
During a meeting with the Irish Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, President Trump hit out at Starmer again.
Adam and Chris discuss Zelensky’s visit and President Trump’s change of heart.
Plus, economics editor Faisal Islam joins Adam, fresh from looking at quantum computers with Rachel Reeves, to discuss the Chancellor’s annual Mais Lecture which covered AI, closer ties with Europe, and possible plans to devolve tax revenue spending.

How can how we solve the planet’s food waste problem? – BBC News
The amount of good food we waste would fit into 23 million fully-loaded 40-tonne trucks.
And if these trucks were lined up bumper-to-bumper, then the queue would be long enough to circle the Earth seven times.
Why do we waste so much food and what can we do about it? The BBC’s Aaron Heslehurst explains.

Iran will be ‘blown off the face of the Earth’ if it attacks US vessels, says Trump | BBC News
The US “should be wary of being dragged back into a quagmire”, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned, as US President Donald Trump’s plan to free ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz threatens the US-Iran ceasefire.
Trump said in an interview with Fox News on Monday that Iran would be “blown off the face of the Earth” if the country attacks US vessels during “Project Freedom”.
But Iran insists that it controls the strait and on Monday fired missiles and drones at military and commercial ships, according to the US.
South Korea and the UAE reported damage to commercial ships, while a reported Iranian attack caused a fire at a UAE oil depot.
Around 2,000 ships are estimated to be stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.
