Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Zab Judah, billed as Sworn Enemies, was a boxing match for the IBF welterweight title which took place on April 8, 2006 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada between IBF welterweight champion Zab Judah and undefeated three-division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

With the loss to Carlos Manuel Baldomir, it appeared that Judah’s much anticipated bout with Mayweather was off, but Judah’s promoter Don King and Mayweather’s promoter Bob Arum reworked the deals so the fight would go on. Mayweather was scheduled to earn a minimum $6 million while Judah was to earn $3 million plus a percentage of the profits, but because of Judah’s loss, Mayweather earned a minimum $5 million while Judah was guaranteed $1 million plus a percentage of profits above $7 million.

The fight took place on April 8, 2006, at the Thomas and Mack Center in Paradise, Nevada.

Canelo Álvarez 35–0–1 (26 KO) vs. Matthew Hatton 41–4–2 (16 KO), billed as Here’s Your Shot, was a professional boxing match contested on March 5, 2011, for the WBC super welterweight championship.

Having held the WBC Silver since his July 2010 victory over Luciano Leonel Cuello, Canelo Álvarez was the mandatory challenger for the WBC light middleweight belt which was won by Manny Pacquiao in November 2010.

In January 2011 Álvarez signed to face European welterweight champion Matthew Hatton at a 150 Ib catchweight.

In February 2011 the WBC Board of Governors voted to declare their super welterweight title vacant, following Pacquiao informing them that he had no intention of defending the belt.[8] As a result, the Álvarez/Hatton bout was sanctioned for the now vacant title despite still being fought 4 pounds below the Light middleweight limit and with Hatton being unranked at the weight. It was the first time for either fighter to challenge for a major belt in any division. Álvarez was a 15–1 on favourite to win.

Canelo Álvarez, who came in at 151.8 pounds, forfeited $70,000 of his $350,000 purse. The Hatton camp asked Alvarez to try to lose the weight, which he agreed to do after a “spirited discussion”. When he came back to the scale about an hour later, he failed to make the limit of 150, weighing in at 151.4 on the scale.

Oscar De La Hoya vs. Bernard Hopkins, billed as It’s History, was a professional boxing match contested on September 18, 2004 for Hopkins’ WBA (Undisputed), WBC, IBF, and The Ring middleweight championships, and Oscar De La Hoya’s WBO middleweight championship.

After losing the WBA and WBC light middleweight titles to Shane Mosley in September 2003, five-division world champion Oscar De La Hoya decided to move up to the middleweight division to challenge undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, who had been middleweight champion for nearly a decade and had not lost a fight in over 11 years. Before the two would fight each other, De La Hoya and Hopkins would first have to get past Felix Sturm and Robert Allen, respectively.

In a doubleheader event broadcast by HBO pay-per-view, Hopkins easily defeated Allen by a lopsided unanimous decision to retain his undisputed title, but De La Hoya struggled in his match with Sturm and only narrowly escaped with a unanimous decision (115–113 on all three scorecards) to capture Sturm’s WBO middleweight title (becoming the first six-division champion in boxing history) and officially put his anticipated match with Hopkins on.

Many, including Sturm himself, felt that De La Hoya had clearly lost the fight and had been gifted the decision for the lucrative Hopkins–De La Hoya bout to continue forward. Sturm and his promoter filed a protest with the Nevada Athletic Commission in an attempt to have the decision overturned, but commission head Marc Ratner turned it down, stating there was no basis for a review.

With Sturm’s protest out of the way, De La Hoya and Hopkins would proceed with their fight and agreed to a catchweight – a rarity for championship fights – of 158 pounds, in order to level the playing fields for the smaller De La Hoya, who had only one middleweight bout to his credit. Because of Hopkins’ size advantage and his vast experience in the middleweight division, De La Hoya, for the first time in his professional career, was considered the “underdog”, with the odds makers in Las Vegas favoring Hopkins at 2–1. De La Hoya, however, was scheduled to make a career high $30 million, while Hopkins would net $10 million, also a career high.

Miguel Cotto was a rising star in the boxing world, becoming the WBA welterweight champion in December 2006. He was still undefeated and had a style that was both technically and physically strong, having scored victories over established names like Zab Judah and Paul Malignaggi. His victory over Judah in June 2007 had elevated him back into The Ring pound for pound top 10.

Shane Mosley, on the other hand, was a more experienced fighter with an impressive career record. He had won titles in three weight classes and his name was established in the boxing world thanks to his strength against fighters such as Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. This cast doubt on whether he would be able to overcome the young, undefeated Cotto. There were several reasons for the fight: Cotto’s status as the undefeated champion and Mosley’s desire to maintain his place at the top. The fight was promoted as a clash of styles, Cotto, the young and dynamic boxer with power and aggression, against Mosley, the technical and faster veteran.

The bout was announced on August 15 and would be promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, with HBO PPV broadcasting. The title of the fight was called “Fast & Furious”, not in connection with the film, but to highlight the fast, explosive style of the two boxers.
