Since the pandemic broke, it’s been easy to forget that Brexit’s still happening and the UK and EU have mere months to find a deal or the UK leaves without one. So in this video, we’re going to update you on what’s been going on and how fish, and more specifically the Common Fisheries Policy has impacted negotiations and caused them to break down early.

So, for some reason the video just cuts to black during the book promotion at the beginning 🤦🏼‍♂️ I've got no idea why that's happening, I think it's a render error – but I've edited it out using the YouTube editor so it should be gone soon… If you do want to see the footage you missed the full announcement for the book can be found here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXVaF59BDUc

Japanese fishing industry – 150,000 jobs, UK fishing industry – 12,000 jobs, Japan – ignores international quota's, UK – enforces them with glee.

You forgot to mention that the Queen owns all the UK's fish and she would have had to give it to the EU.

Any idea what he meant by “no deal WHO terms” as a basis for trading? I thought that WHO is restricted to health and WTO dealt with trade.

Question – Can we actually take back "our" fishing waters? especially as we sold a lot of our fishing rights to the EU?

  9. @andymacdonald30

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Once the UK has trade deals in place with the USA ,Canada Australia .Japan . India etc etc I am sure we will deal with the EU with the same level of contempt the EU has shown the UK during the Brexit saga !!

  10. @LuisOntanon

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Let UK crash out… no deal… feel what it means and come back with more realism… realism to understand that British produce need certification at EU level which without a deal the UK cannot provide… realism to understand that without EU certification British animal produce cannot be legally sold in the EU… realism to understand that France won’t be willing to pay a penny to expand customs to allow British imports… realism to understand that serious concessions are to be given about Gibraltar for Spain not to unilaterally veto any future agreement… realism to understand that during the current crisis what happens to the UK’s jobs base is the least of the problems of the EU, and realism to understand that British imports can be replaced by continental products… realism to understand that there’s a lot to be conceded to get any agreement thru 28 parliaments.

Realism to understand that Brexit means either giving up political rights in the union or loosing access to the union all together.

There is a reason why fisherman don't like the common fisheries rule. It affects their ability to overfish the English channel when to be fair they NEVER consider the environmental impact that overfishing in the channel can do to the fish stocking levels and only think about lining their pockets. The irrefutable damage we caused before the common fisheries law was introduced, to the environment and the pollution levels from boating levels were bad. I don't think that should change.

  12. @GregoryWonderwheel

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

The issue is that fish don't know anything about national borders. The idea that fish swimming through a national border allows that nation to grab all the fish passing through is just greedy folly and the worst environmentally destructive policy that is emblematic of the danger of capitalism . Fish are a world-wide resource and the fishing policies should be made on a world wide basis, not by the EU.

If BJ has the guts to leave with no deal despite all the ups and downs and u turns he will secure the future of his party. This country has fought against fascists before and won, it needs to put the EU ones in their place. Fail and obscurity waits in store.

Fishing – The UK joined the EC now the EU on the 1st January 1973, Edward Heath knew at the time that the EU would have access to our 200 mile coastal zone for fishing and would control quotas for fishing. He also knew this would cost thousands of jobs in the UK fishing industry but he was so desperate to join he annoyed this fact. The UK has now left the EU so it is obvious our fishing waters will return to the UK’s control. Yes thousands of jobs may be lost in the EU fishing industry the same as we lost jobs from 1973, note this fact is not mention.

  21. @marksavage1108

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

UK waters are much much richer than the other countries waters. £6 Billion per year industry, a massive national asset for an “INDEPENDENT“ coastal state. NO deal will save us £39 Billion, that is £500 each for everyone of the UKs 66 million population. I dont want to give the eu dictatorship any more of my hard earned.

Point 1! Brexit Saga! wouldn't have been a saga if the 2016 election taken to its democratic point of democracy,…err, Democracy? we voted OUT! and so that should have been it. there is NO discussion, really, we didn't want a "trade deal" especially when it goes against our National Interests and the "level playing field" and thats a fat laugh!! whats level about it (unless you are a EU blind fool) and believe it, we British aint!!!

  23. @davidjames3459

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

the eu have and never will change . they are always right and every body else is wrong. when you have un elected people you cannot get rid of you have got no chance. remember what was said in the eu parliment they won the war. and this what they believe.

  24. @ronbambrough1902

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

WTO is the best outcome. We can do without the EU more than they can do without us.

  25. @ronbambrough1902

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

Fishing only accounts for a small percentage of GDP because the EU have been stealing billions of pounds of OUR fish.

  26. @ronbambrough1902

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

What a totally biased report. We will get our fisheries back and pick and choose who can fish them. Also the French and Spanish need our fish. They won’t get it at any price as we can export it elsewhere, (Japan comes to mind)

  27. @sirloin8745

    January 13, 2024 at 6:43 pm

We can't take back control of our borders even when there is the risk of a contagious virus being spread from across the Continent. Boris is just an Opportunist. He lacks the eye for detail that Brexit & Covid-19 require.

AT LAST – it seems that The UK and The EU are in total agreement. They've de facto agreed that there's going to be an Australia-type deal.

Ultimatum number…number…Psst! Ooi! How many ultimatums have the UK sent already?

  31. @DancingTewi

EU fishing policy is just retarded? It's same as sharing fields for argiculture and we are not doing that either.

Everyone seems to forget the concessions made to Spain and the Common Fisheries Policy in return for us using Gibraltar as a staging platform for the Falklands War
