‘Homeless with three kids’ | BBC News
The number of households in England living in temporary accommodation is at a record high, government figures show.
More than 132,000 households were living in temporary accommodation on 30 June 2025, up 7.6% from the same time last year. That includes more than 172,000 children.
Mum of three, Danielle, from west London, has moved four times in a year after she was forced out of her flat when the landlord sold up.
UK Homelessness Minister, Alison McGovern said: “Today’s statistics are a harsh reminder that too many have been let down by the system meant to protect them.”

Wes Streeting resigns as health secretary, saying he has lost confidence in Keir Starmer | BBC News
Health Secretary Wes Streeting has resigned from Keir Starmer’s government, saying he has “lost confidence” in his leadership.
In a letter to the prime minister, which Streeting published online, he says “where we need vision, we have a vacuum. Where we need direction, we have drift”.
Earlier Chancellor Rachel Reeves told BBC Breakfast that a contest would “plunge the country into chaos”.
The UK PM is battling to save his job after four ministers quit and dozens of Labour MPs urged him to resign after last week’s heavy election losses.

Labour leadership contest could ‘plunge country into chaos’, says UK chancellor | BBC News
Chancellor Rachel Reeves said in an exclusive interview with the BBC that any Labour leadership contest would “plunge the country into chaos”.
It comes as Angela Rayner, seen as a potential challenger to PM Keir Starmer, was cleared by HMRC of wrongdoing over her tax affairs after settling £40,000 in unpaid stamp duty, saying she had been “exonerated” of the accusation she had “deliberately sought to avoid tax”.
On Wednesday, allies of Health Secretary Wes Streeting said they expected him to launch a challenge as soon as today.
