Israel has blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid into Gaza, demanding Hamas agree to a US plan for a ceasefire extension.
The first phase of the ceasefire expired on Saturday, and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Hamas had so far refused to accept a temporary extension under a proposal by Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff.
A Hamas spokesman said blocking supplies to Gaza was “cheap blackmail”, and urged mediators to intervene.
The initial phase of the ceasefire halted 15 months of fighting between Hamas and the Israeli military, allowing the release of 33 Israeli and five Thai hostages for about 1,900 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
But negotiations on phase two, including the release of all remaining living hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, have barely begun.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sacked the country’s commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
His dismissal comes just days after the removal of popular Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov – a move that triggered street protests across the country.
Initial rumours that the end of Fedorov’s tenure was related to a conflict between him and Syrskyi were soon confirmed.

The US has imposed new tariffs on 60 trading partners in the latest escalation in the trade war reignited by President Donald Trump when he returned to office last year.
Those targeted, including the UK, China and the European Union, will face a tariff of 10% to 12.5% on all goods, accounting for almost all American imports.
The tariffs, which replace an identical levy which expires on Friday, are based on claims key economic partners have failed to properly tackle forced labour.
But US trade expert Caroline Freund said the move is “not about forced labour” but that Trump is simply “looking for a legal reason to put the tariffs in”.

Ukrainian drones have hit warehouses of Russia’s biggest online retailer again, killing one person and injuring another 14, local officials said.
They said logistics hubs run by Wildberries in two south-west cities in the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions were struck overnight, triggering the evacuation of employees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the hubs were “involved in providing the Russian army with drone components, navigation equipment and other gear”.
Ukraine hit the retailer’s warehouses in central Russia four days ago, killing eight people, according to Russian officials.
The latest strikes come after President Zelensky dismissed Ukraine’s army commander-in-chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Thousands of people continue to protest demanding the Indian education minister’s resignation after representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held talks with the government.
The meeting came after activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his hunger strike after 26 days of fasting in solidarity with the protests.
A CJP spokesperson told reporters that the government has asked for a day to decide on their biggest demand – minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken, posted a video promising a tough new law on examination paper leaks, the issue at the core of the protests.
