One person is dead and 16 others are injured after a car was driven into a crowd at a Berlin Pride event, police say.

An intensive manhunt is taking place in the German capital of Berlin, officers say.

The mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, has called the incident, “an attack on our free and open-minded society”

India’s cockroach protests: Modi breaks silence and hunger strike ends | BBC News

Thousands of people continue to protest demanding the Indian education minister’s resignation after representatives of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) held talks with the government.

The meeting came after activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his hunger strike after 26 days of fasting in solidarity with the protests.

A CJP spokesperson told reporters that the government has asked for a day to decide on their biggest demand – minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken, posted a video promising a tough new law on examination paper leaks, the issue at the core of the protests.

Firefighters battle to contain France and Spain wildfires as thousands evacuated | BBC News

Firefighters are struggling to contain wildfires raging across Europe.

An evacuation alert for residents in the south-west of France takes the number of people displaced to more than 220,000.

In Spain, about 25,000 were told to evacuate as a local official says that containing wildfires near Madrid is “beyond the capacity” of firefighters.

A major incident has also been declared by Police Scotland, as emergency services continue to tackle a wildfire which has been burning in the Cairngorms National Park for 10 days.
