Terracotta Army: The greatest archaeological find of the 20th century – BBC News

Published

on

In March 1974, Chinese farmers digging a well unearthed the greatest archaeological find of the century – the buried Terracotta Army. After coming across a life-sized human head made of clay in Xi’an, China, archaeologists were called in to investigate. What they found was extraordinary. Thousands of life-like terracotta figures from the Qin dynasty, fashioned 2,000 years ago to protect the First Emperor of China in the afterlife. Archaeologist Li Xiuzhen has worked on the site since the 1980s. Her team was the first to discover that each warrior was originally painted in bright colours.

Terracotta from italian means (Boiling Ground).
Anyway, who knows how much man power they needed (same as for the building of the pyramidess) to have made each ''soldier" in such detail.

We were there, say late '90s. I remarked to our guide it was fortunate the site had not been found during the 'Cultural Revolution'. He admitted he was too young to know, but his parents had also expressed relief for the same reason. Mao's idiocy could have caused much greater harm.

Modern historians often refute the extraordinary claims made by ancient historians, and consider many things exaggerations or myths. But it's fascinating when we discover some things to be true. We find it hard to believe because we live in a much different world where those massive amounts of manpower and money only go towards projects like building the Panama canal, or the NYC subway system, and not into projects we would consider non-essential in our time. People wouldn't believe the ancient Egyptians stacked two million 10 ton stones if the pyramids disappeared in Antiquity. I bet the ancient wonders of the world, like the hanging gardens of Babylon, were as great as they say.

So reminds me of the Bible stories about man being created from clay and of Noah's arc, no two alike and one of every kind. Keeping an open mind on the facts that those places are here somewhere on earth and no one has yet figured out where or how. Similar to Moses and Egypt, it would make so much sense for the plagues to have came down from the pyramids and all those chambers and things in the pyramids no one has an explanation for their use, what if they were used to hold and breed the locusts and other insects, that where the let out through one of those tunnels heading towards the ought, and fell upon the people living below. This could also apply to the other parts of the plague and areas around the pyramids, especially since during this time frame these were things used in warfare and siege.

How are you going to make a video profiting off of this where you mention the farmers that found it but completely negate the fact that out of I believe seven people who found this discovery were all pushed off their land. They had their houses and and their land taken from them. They received absolutely nothing for finding this (which sadly is the norm on this planet, to discover something in the credit goes to your government and its museums). One of them has committed suicide and the rest of them have died in poverty of the one or two that are remaining the occasionally get to sign autographs for pennies. I'm not saying you need to be rewarded handsome fee for a discovery, but it certainly seems like the handsome reward for this discovery went to people that didn't discuss it. And now here is the bbc history getting their slice of the pie without ever mentioning the strife that the people who actually deserve the credit for fighting this went through.

Hai kebodohan kebodohan…

This ritual is very similar to Ancient Egyptians preserving animals and human amulet alongside their deceased to serve in afterlife…sadly though many concubines were buried alive when their Emperor died. Monastic life was their only alternative option to live.

It’s completely breathtaking, not even a Spielberg movie could dream up an archaeological artefact of thjs spectacular magnitude. 8000 figures, 130 chariots, 520 horses in over 25,000 Sq metres! They believe it’s only a tiny part of a much larger ancient complex. Chinese hearts must’ve been bursting with honour and pride after the first exhibition was opened to the public in 1975, just 1 year after the Terracotta Army was discovered in 1974.

Is it Time to Tax the Robots? | BBC News

Published

Join the AI Decoded team as we examine Sam Altman’s vision for an era of artificial superintelligence. The Open AI CEO is calling for a new kind of social contract — an “AI New Deal” — arguing that unprecedented technological power will require rethinking how the benefits are shared, including ideas such as wealth redistribution and even taxes on robots.

Also in the programme, presenter Christian Fraser is joined by leading AI thinker Gary Marcus and Oxford University robotics expert Professor Sara Bernardini to explore what a future shaped by autonomous machines could mean for work, safety and society.

Plus, tech reporter Lara Lewington meets 19‑year‑old student Maeve O’Neil, whose smart ring detected a life‑threatening health issue before it was too late.

AI Decoded — helping you make sense of the AI shaping your world.

Has Trump’s feud with Pope Leo crossed a line with Catholics? | Global News Podcast

Published

on

There is continuing criticism from Catholics around the world, as US President Donald Trump’s feud with Pope Leo escalates. Trump said Pope Leo XIV was “weak”, and posted an AI-generated image of himself on Truth Social, which many people believe depicted him as Jesus.

The image, which has now been deleted, showed Trump appearing to heal a sick man in a hospital bed. He said it showed him as a doctor. The image post came hours after the president posted a lengthy message criticising the pontiff, who is a vocal critic of the US and Israeli military operation in Iran.

Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, has said Donald Trump’s remarks are ”unacceptable”. Meloni, who is Catholic and heads a right-wing coalition government, is a close ally of Trump.

Pope Leo said that he has “no fear” of the Trump administration. There are more than 70 million Catholics in the US – many of whom are swing voters. We ask the BBC’s religion editor, Aleem Maqbool, if Donald Trump’s row with the pope has dealt lasting damage to his Catholic support.

BBC investigation finds lawyers coaching fake LGBTQ+ asylum claims | BBC News

Published

on

A shadow industry of law firms and advisers is charging thousands of pounds to help migrants pretend to be gay in order to stay in the UK, the BBC has found.

In the first part of a major undercover investigation, we reveal how migrants whose visas are due to run out are being given fake cover stories and instructed in how to obtain fabricated evidence, including supporting letters, photographs and medical reports.

They then apply for asylum claiming to be gay and in fear for their lives if they return to Pakistan or Bangladesh.

In response to our findings, the Home Office said: “Anyone found trying to exploit the system will face the full force of the law, including removal from the UK.”
