Wildfire in Suffolk, UK, not yet under control, fire service says | BBC News
A UK wildfire the equivalent size of 140 football pitches is not yet under control, the fire service has said.
The blaze broke out on Dunwich Heath in Suffolk on Wednesday, with a major incident declared “due to the size and complexity” of the blaze.
Meanwhile, Greece is also among many European countries facing devastating fires and drought.
Several fires have continued to burn in Spain and Portugal, although Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared an end to the national emergency for wildfires in the Ávila and Madrid regions.
In south-west France some residents have been able to return to their homes after a major wildfire in the Gironde region.

Fauci refuses to answer questions during Covid hearing | BBC News
Former top US health official Anthony Fauci has refused to answer questions at a tense US Senate hearing on Covid-19, saying he feared Republicans would try to use his testimony to prosecute him for perjury.
He invoked the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution – which says nobody can be “compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself” – more than 100 times.
Republicans have long accused Fauci of concealing information about the pandemic from the public and lying about its dangers. He has denied wrongdoing.
Fauci has called the allegations against him “simply preposterous” in previous testimony to lawmakers.
Before leaving office in 2025, then-President Joe Biden issued a pre-emptive pardon to Fauci, granting him protection from any prosecution.

Teenage Norwegian ‘hitman’ guilty of UK assassination plot | BBC News
A teenager who travelled from Norway to the UK to carry out an assassination for a Swedish organised crime group has been found guilty of conspiracy to murder.
An Old Bailey jury heard how Johannes Natland, 19, was arrested in a hotel room in Huddersfield with two working guns and 19 rounds of live ammunition in March 2025.
He pleaded guilty to possession of the firearms and ammunition but had denied the conspiracy charge.
Following a retrial, Natland showed no emotion as the jury brought in a unanimous guilty verdict after deliberating for just over 17 hours.
During the trial opening, prosecutor Alistair Richardson said the teen was “recruited” by the Foxtrot Network, which was described as a Swedish organised crime group backed by the Iranian regime.
Natland had claimed rather than carry out the attack, he had planned to shoot himself in the foot, telling jurors he had found himself in “a major pickle”.
The court heard how the Foxtrot Network had been sanctioned by both the UK and the US for its close links to the Iranian government.
The group is infamous for pioneering the relatively new phenomenon of hiring teenage killers.
Natland flew into Manchester Airport on an emergency passport on 17 March and was guided by videos on the messaging app Signal to Huddersfield, where the guns, a stolen car and a stash of cash were hidden.
He was only prevented from carrying out the hit because Norwegian police arrested the teenager who had recruited him, and found messages about the UK plot in the Signal app on his phone.
Jane Hill presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Daniel Sandford.

Yoooo props to him for saying how he learned; instead of the good ole, “I use linear algebra to solve it” although, learning the steps to when you need to use it is still a great memory talent. I’ve finally learned how to solo solve, and it took me 2 weeks to learn. Even with that it takes me an hour, So this is still an amazing accomplishment.
