Kevin McCarthy: Who will replace him as House Speaker? – BBC News
A search is under way for a Speaker of the House of Representatives after Republican Kevin McCarthy was unexpectedly pushed out by a right-wing revolt in his own party.
The Republicans control the lower chamber of Congress but with a very narrow majority.
So when eight rebels joined the Democrats on Tuesday night, his fate was sealed in a 216-210 final vote.
It is the first time a House Speaker, one of the top jobs in US politics, has been removed in this way.

The terms of a deal between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages are being finalised, a Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations has told the BBC.
It comes as US President Joe Biden said a deal was “on the brink” of coming to fruition, and that his administration was working urgently on the matter.
An Israeli official also told news agency Reuters that negotiations were in “advanced stages”, with a deal possible in “hours, days or more”.
Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, and with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar, who is mediating the negotiations.

When Donald Trump was President he took Obama Care away claiming it was excluding white people just those able to afford medical bills. Women lost the right to their bodies to adopted a pregnancy and because he a all white guy a lot of people started attacking those in LBGTQAI+ community and others of a different race.
