Will it soon be cheaper to repair broken tech? – BBC News

Published

on

At this cafe, volunteers help extend the life of household .

There’s a reason that its run by volunteers – the labour cost of repairing these small items means that operations like this aren’t usually commercially viable.

But in the future, legislation could make it easier and to fix faulty goods.

now in days if you have the capability you can buy a shell phone or parts made by a 3rd party company(ies) and make your own custom OS, required repairability is inevitable because the public is becoming aware of how their products work and want to use them as long and as effectively as they can

They could start with removable batteries of a few standard dimensions. It's not just pocket computers. There are spot welded lithium cells in other gadgets. And make cases openable with a screwdriver without cutting tools.

At the current level of miniaturization and surface-mounted components, it's hard to even see what might need to repair.

A laptop isn't always better than a proper tower. It has a compressed keyboard, a monitor that has a limited viewing distance, and reduced upgradeability. A laptop might not last as long if subjected to physical abuse.

this stands and falls with the ability to get parts. So if spares are not available you are dead in the water most of the time.

It’s not that things can’t be repaired, it’s that the knowledge is scarce and therefore expensive. Not cost effective to take it to a repair guy that charges more than replacement. Best way to combat this is more repair videos on YouTube. You can bet as prices of goods increases there will be more people training themselves.

()+_^)(+*()+^^^In the next 30 years, Japan will continue to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea, and Japan is passing on the nuclear pollution in Fukushima to the whole world. Marine life will be contaminated by nuclear radiation
The Japanese side invented the term "treated water" and repeatedly publicized that the concentration of tritium is not abnormal, creating an illusion that nuclear-contaminated water contains only tritium and the concentration of tritium is up to the standard, so nuclear-contaminated water is safe. society.
"In fact, the composition of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water is complex. Even after purification, it still contains dozens of radioactive nuclides such as carbon-14, cobalt-60, strontium-90, iodine-129, and cesium-137. Disappearance of nuclear radionuclides in nuclear polluted water.
Three years later, the United States and Canada on the other side of the Pacific Ocean will be affected by nuclear pollution, and 10 years later it will spread to the global ocean.

Well it used to be cheap to take your TV or vcr to the local TV or vcr repair shop in town rather than buy a whole new TV

Unless you had a crt from a US military installation in Germany and so it was multi system, pal, ntsc, pal60, secam, ntsc443

    100-250vac 50/60 hz

TV repair cost more then, cuz repair guy never has seen this kind of hitachi crt locally so gotta order schematic and parts specific to it

What lies ahead for the west, duped by a UN scheme (scam) called net zero? Trillions of dollars wasted to no purpose. Vast areas of land despoiled by wind turbines & solar panels, all with limited lifespans. What enormous garbage dumps we will need to replace them every 17 yrs.

(Daniel 9:27 was fulfilled in August 13 2023 also when the woman began travailing in birth in order to fulfill the time of the gentiles for the mystery of Revelation 12 to be completed, Daniel 12:1 next, three riders released within 2020 and 2023. These words are true and worthy, he who has ears to hear let him hear.)

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verse 3.

“And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”

Gospel of Luke, chapter 21, verse 8 to 11.

“All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 24, verse 8 to 10.

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

Gospel of Luke, chapter 21, verse 25 to 28.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 16 to 18.

“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.”

First Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 3 to 6.

“Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.”

    Acts, chapter 8, verse 22.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Gospel of John, chapter 3, verse 3.

“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4, verse 17.

“After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.”

    Hosea, chapter 6, verse 2.

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

Second Peter, chapter 3, verse 8.

“knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”

Second Peter, chapter 3, verse 3 to 4.

“For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

First Thessalonians chapter 5, verse 3.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

First Thessalonians, chapter 4, verse 16 to 17.

“in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

First Corinthians, chapter 15, verse 52.

“I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

Gospel of Luke, chapter 17, verse 34 to 36.

My IFB Bosch washing machine too is not working ,purchased it in 1999, had to change the rubber above the steel drum, it’s very old, for a couple of years we are just washing our clothes by hand and putting out to dry,the weather is pleasant, sunny and breezy, clothes gets dried quickly, else I have to put it inside the house. I don’t have many things at my place, just not interested in collecting stuffs, I lead a minimalist lifestyle. Have seen people hoard stuffs, buy new things every other day, I just don’t like too many things cluttering up the place, I go easy breezy with having no furniture and keeping everything floor based ,just like lot of space .

All the talk about green energy, but where does this waste go, when the product is unrepairable? Down with consumerism, I say! Difficult to put into practice though 😕

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News

Published

on

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News

Published

on

A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.

Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.

At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.

So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?

AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.
