Beans aren't part of a Traditional Chile Con Carne. They are a filler. Chili is great but try the Mexican chocolate. And the whole bottle of the Ale (Irish Chocolate Ale is Great in this). Sorry, I used to compete in Chili.

I also add the spices when I'm cooking the onions, and I also use cinnamon, along with cumin, coriander, chili powder, sometimes dried ginger for an unexpected but subtle kick. I use beer or ale sometimes, but I never fail to include leftover coffee. I let it simmer for much longer than two hours, and at least a half hour before I'm going to serve it I add a mixture of corn meal and water to thicken it. I will experiment with dark chocolate now and report on my findings.

Made this for my Asian parents and they really liked it! Probably the best chilli con carne recipe! ;D I used dark chocolate which had bits of lime in it and added a fruity twist to it! Thank you so much for this recipe! xx

Why isn't Tom in the videos anymore? Is it because he lacks personality?

  29. @pedantic79

    January 11, 2024 at 5:41 pm

Beer falls into two categories, ales and lager. The difference is the yeast that is used to create the alcohol. You can use any kind of beer, but I would avoid a beer with too strong of a flavor as it can through your dish off. Any middle of the road beer will be fine.

  30. @babablacksheepdog

    January 11, 2024 at 5:41 pm

Ale is a kind of beer. I think whether a beer is an ale depends on its fermentation process and the ingredients that go in it. If I'm not mistaken, ales are usually darker in colour and flatter.

  31. @alohathegannonslayer

    January 11, 2024 at 5:41 pm

By Ale. Do you mean a strong beer or something along those lines? English is not my native language, so I'm a little confused as it can mean many different things to me.

If any of you have read/seen 'Chocolat' then i challenge you to make the chicken/goose with chocolate gravy 😉

  36. @twinsince96

    January 11, 2024 at 5:41 pm

so you just add the ground beef and dont cook it first, so it gets brown and flavourful
what if you took some beef pieces, would you have to cook it first
