Netflix loses almost a million subscribers in three months – BBC News

Published

on

Netflix lost almost 1m subscribers between April and July, as the number of people quitting the service accelerated.

But that was not as many as the streaming giant had feared, with the firm’s chief executive, Reed Hastings, saying that popular shows such as Stranger Things may have prevented a further slide in subscriptions.

The company reported its first subscriber loss since 2011 in April, news that was followed by hundreds of job cuts and a sharp drop in its share price.

I have just cancelled ours. Sick of the inconsistent material on offer.

They currently have the Resident Evil film series, every movie, except the second one?

Why bother putting a film series up if you have gaps – it’s ridiculous.

Imagine paying a subscription for ads and access to a limited catalog.

    Whats the point? 😂😂😂

I notice that Disney Plus has snatched away a lot of shows that use to be on Netflix. Some streaming savvy users subscribe to one service only, cancel it as there is no contract, and then binge watch as much as they can for the month, then switch to another service and do the same.

I cancelled, I was using it with my mom and since she doesn't live with me, she's not allowed anymore. They increased their prices BECAUSE people were sharing, I was like ok… now they're just trying to bleed me dry. Soo many cheaper even free options out there fk netflix

I am selling off my shares and Netflix. They made good money but this is Kodak all over again. When a company gets so big that they think they cannot fail and they stop listening to what the people want it is only a matter of time before they go out of business.

    January 9, 2024 at 5:44 pm

Instead of relooking at the issue which is their content not being consistent enough their trying to find ways to maintain or increase profit. This is already a sign it’s over for them. I just started unsubscribing from the ones with ads, I’m paying to NOT have ads

Netflix has great content?! Since when. How long ago was squid game ?? They do one good show every 2-3 months and the rest is stagnant crap. Maybe it’s just the UK version but reason people password share is because most ppl don’t see it as worth it actually having their own account. Depending on your algorithm sometimes you don’t see anything you want to watch for months why would I pay monthly for something I don’t use

I pay money for of subscription. I am not paying money for ads. Netflix is just stretching and bending the truth, so they can find another revenue stream. I am not paying for ads. Your content is not frequently updated. It is old and boring and have watched the same content for years and years over and over again.

  21. @andrewblackwell4620

    January 9, 2024 at 5:44 pm

It’s not the competition, and it’s not just the swapping of ghost accounts.. your content is old and outdated. It is not frequently updated with new content. It is old and boring and the way that you have to flick through your library to find anything every category is mixed up into the same category they just spreading their content out to make it look bigger in fuller. It is so annoying to constantly flick through Netflix and try and find something that you haven’t watched for years and years and over and over again.

  22. @andrewblackwell4620

    January 9, 2024 at 5:44 pm

Do not care about competition or the cost of money to make content. If you are charging subscribers for a service then you have to provide that service start making new content. I am just about to cancel my Netflix subscription myself. I’m so sick and tired of it. it is old, boring and outdated.

  23. @andrewblackwell4620

    January 9, 2024 at 5:44 pm

Netflix, library and content is so old and outdated. It’s a joke. They will not update new episodes or make any new content. Why is it worth subscribing?

  24. @scott4825

    January 9, 2024 at 5:44 pm

When a streaming company is starting to face tough competition, and they announce to their loyal customers that they are going to start charging/fining people for 'sharing' accounts, they are going to lose a lot of customers. So a quick and easy way not to get charged extra for my kids while they are in college is to dump Netflix. And then there are the sheer number of great shows that they would discontinue after 1 year.

Netflix customer care are stupid and behave like robots …
I have been a regular customer for years and my debit card was lost I asked them to extend my grace access for one day (24 days) until I received my replacement card
They were so stupid to reject

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News

Published

on

The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.

“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.

In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News

Published

on

President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.

He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.

Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.

Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.

The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News

Published

on

The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.

Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.

President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.
