I’d be really interested to see Jamie and Mike recreate the concept of this video because I think it would be interesting to see what sort of techniques and inspiration the Packs app provides to the normals. Obviously they are continually developing over time as their skills, thought patterns and confidence are always improving as they’re constantly learning but imo I’d be interested to see what sort of things the normals especially would attempt to execute for a midweek meal by using the skills from the app to help them create their dish. Just as an example I’m wondering what sort of things Mike would consider doing during his preparation time and what skills he can use from the app to help him achieve the result he desires

Definitely a seafood, potato leek bisque with greens and tomato tossed in vinaigrette on the side. I'd spend the extra time making a quick bread.

January 9, 2024 at 3:14 pm
Lol Barry cooks with garlic the same way my family does 😂 you never use one clove of garlic unless the recipe is "how to cook one clove of garlic" and even then use two to be save 😅
@GrumpyTy34er

Apparently I've commented 3 times and each time I agree that James did NOT make a midweek meal. A bunch of food thrown together is what I think midweek

January 9, 2024 at 3:14 pm
It's a bit weird how they act like "three things on a plate" is a novel idea, when most families eat that way all the time. Meat, veg, starch.

James or Barry didn't clean the leeks. It may seem like a m iij nor point but I always wash them 2 remove the dirt, I weed would never think of serving them without cleaning them. I noticed Jamie didn't eat them.

Ben knowing EXACTLY what James was looking for in the herbs makes me so giddy. It's like chefs have a separate mindset that only they can access and all share thoughts with each other. It just goes to show how experts in their fields are so good at their craft that they know exactly what each other are going to do. I strive to be that good at anything in my life

It's an older video, but a couple things to point out to anyone else watching:
1) Have everything you're going to cook within reach. This means food, seasonings, cookware. If it's not in sight, it's a waste of time.
2) When cooking multiple components, timers or cues are your friend.
3) Goes with point 2, but start with the items that take the longest to prepare.
4) Have a clear vision for the dish. Moments of inspiration are fine, but bringing in a brand new component can derail the timing on everything else.
5) Remain calm and in control. Panicking in a kitchen space can lead to serious injury or a waste of food.
6) Taste throughout. Alternatively, season lightly and then taste at the end before applying a finishing touch.
7) Presentation is secondary to flavour. Prioritize the taste over how it appears.
8) Have fun.
I enjoy the Sorted videos – it's a very different format from the usual cooking stuff I watch, so I hope you guys keep at it!

Did we really stand that close to each other? 😂

I think Barry might have had a chance if he wouldn't have added too much garlic. His wife might like this, but not everyone wants garlic as the front runner. Particularly with Jamie judging, a solid hash and egg meal could have been a winner. It sure looked good.
