I’m revisiting this now I’m a full on sorted fan, and this video really does it’s justice to Knafeh, it’s so weird to see British folk do a dish like this and I love it so much.

I know it’s 4 years later but every mistake you made and solution you came to is the same steps my parents took when attempting to make this in the UK, since you can’t exactly rock up to your local shop 🤣

Baron foodie channel "How to make Kunafa by 5 minutes?" Short.
You do not put it back on the heat after turning. You top it with the sugary syrup and top with chopped pistachios. It does not take long for filo to cook. Use the wet mozzarella balls by drying the outside and shred it. That is what they use if they are not in their home country and canot get Akawi cheese. The color use use in the ghee should represent red for rose water and orange for orange blossom. This much I know from learning how to make it. It takes 5 minutes maximum to make one. When you did the first one and saw smoke I knew you burnt it. Second time was better but still not wet mozzarella balls. No ricotta!!!

2:41 Why did Jamie say that? You guys do understand that burritos are Mexican? That is a lot of why the Spanish were so upset by your “burrito.” I know you heard a lot from many Spanish people. How many Mexicans complained? I would imagine far fewer. The per Capita expression of access to the Internet relative to a comparison between Mexico and Spain would be sad. Fusion cuisines never complain, or far fewer times. The Spanish ethnicities are feeling squeezed… or that is what I have been told. Not all Spaniards speak the same maternal language… Mexican Spanish and European Spanish languages share similarities, but…

You don’t need to go all the way to Dubai to try this – it’s available in London restaurants, eg Hazev E14

Great job on the second one – pretty sure that the first one might have got there apart from a couple of kitchen mess ups. Induction.. hmm OK I've got mixed views (and I've had a couple of Mille induction pads on my 'deck' for 10 years or so). First up you HAVE to use flat bottomed (magnetic) pans. Not magnetic does not work, not flat bottomed ends up in frying disasters as only the part of the pan in contact (or close) to the hob gets hot. Now for boiiling water or frying with a flat bottomed pan they are awesome… where i struggle is using them for cooking with residual heat . Cannot cook good steamed rice on the induction – my timings fail. So I end up on the ceramic… Long heat retention wins.

It was prolly a mistake to try and make it with the wrong cheese. How hard did you look, James? Because you're in London; there's no way there isn't some Palestinian cheese somewhere. Just find a Palestinian Londoner and ask them.

  19. @ardaoguzcan9396

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Same dessert in Turkey too. Especially in Hatay. Dessert name is künefe. And that noodle look thing is kadayıf. And made much better and different cheese than ricotta and mozarella.

My grandfather used to make this in their kitchen. It tasted amazing. We would eat the leftover künefe next two days straight out of the fridge and it was still so good. I miss you grandad. Rest easy

Do they know "gee" means "vagina" in Ireland

  35. @MyDarling572

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

The reason the homemade kunafa never taste like the ones in restaurants is because apparently the cheese is a recipe on its own. It is more than just emptying the content of the package in the pan. But they wouldn't tell me how they prepare the cheese for hours to give it the heavenly taste that we become addicted to 🙁

So interesting, we have this in Greece but we call it Kiunefeh, and it usually is make from someone from Turkey.. I wonder if the greek cheese kaseri would be more appropriate cheese for this, gooey but more cheese flavour

When you swirl the pan on the heat like that, the edges of the pan are on and off of the heat intermittently, but the middle of the pan is always on the heat…

you need to soak the kadaifi in melted butter as well and i reccomend another layer of kadaifi on top makes in easier to cook after the flip

    Kataifi. "Birdsnest pastry"

  45. @faykguru

maybe use labneh instead of ricotta

  46. @jopiagalis

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

It took me a while and a few rewatches but that shredded phyllo pastry is called καταιΐφι or kataifi (pronounced kah-tah-e(long e like in the word meet)-fee

  47. @shalaka1711

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

You have to shredd the noodles really small and then coat it with lots of ghee. Grease the tray with ghee to avoid sticky to the tray. Once you pour sugar syrup cover it for few seconds and let it rest for few seconds before serving

  48. @DraconaiMac

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

Looks way yummy in concept but what does the turning of the pan do for the dish?

  49. @matthewadormeo2457

    January 8, 2024 at 9:56 pm

So used to seeing my people make this(arab people) that I forgot shouting and hand gestures were not part of making knefa, they are so calm.
