    How to fix the economy:

    1) Fund public services and ensure their long term provision via expanding provision of training, workforce planning, and good wages and benefits for staff

    2) return public utilities and services to public ownership and then do 1 with them

    3) focus on infrastructure building; road, rail, housing, internet, water and sewage, 15 minute cities, etc

    4) reduce inequality by adding higher taxes to the wealthy and seriously cracking down o. Tax evasion and offshoring profits

    5) the UK isnt just london, act like it

Exceptionally good video on the state of the UK economy.

Productivity = The measure of output per person.

Increased migration gave industry a ready supply of cheap labour. There was little incentive for business to invest in mechanisation to improve productivity. It's cheaper to pay immigrants to do the tasks.

Business in the UK also have a very short-term view of investment. I know businesses that won't invest, unless they receive a positive return on the investment inside periods as short as 12 months. This rules out significant investment for mechanisation, as the returns won't be seen for several years.

This needs to change in order for the UK economy to thrive.

Inequality is not bad per se, despite all the brainwashing for modern academia and media: it is what you get when different people do different choices – having all equal is what happened in places like the soviet-ruled countries, where everybody was equally miserable.

The main problem is still the productivity one and it is strongly driven by having tons of unqualified people hired to do little to nothing, particularly in the public sector, draining a lot of resources from the more productive segments of society; London is so wealthy also because its core (the city) had special fiscal privileges and all the wealth attracted more competitive and prepared people from abroad – the UK education system is a joke aimed at just milking people of their money and producing sloppy, entitled and poorly prepared students.

The German East is still in shambles and depends a lot on funding that are dragging down the whole Bundesland, so try to find another example; poverty is correlated to bad health, but you assume a causation link I would object to: poor people with higher IQ are much less likely to have a series of issues and eventually will manage to raise their income.

What I'm picking up from this video is that there needs to be much more government involvement in the economy.

Hi, I am a viewer from the U.S. and i kinda have a question why does it seem like in English speaking countries right now it is nearly impossible for political parties to work for the benefit of their people and country. I'm genuinely curious. Here in America, our politics are so divisive.
