UK can maintain her sovereignty by uniting Ireland for her pro-EU single market doing economical well for Brexit.

On one hand, I can accept that the government chose to honour the referendum result. I say chose because as far as the British constitution is concerned, all referendums are advisory and not legally binding. Back in 1979, there was a referendum on Scottish independence. There was a majority vote for independence (50.8%). However, because of the narrow majority, it was decided the result wasn't conclusive enough. Nothing changed. The second independence referendum in 2014 differed from the EU referendum in a key element. 16 & 17 year olds were allowed to vote in the independence referendum because it would affect their future. This is in contrast to the EU referendum, where you had to be at least 18 years old to vote. I believe the EU referendum also would have implications for the future of youngsters, right?

The brexit referendum only had a turnout of 72.2% of the electorate. Therefore, 51.9% of 72.2% vote to leave the EU. It's hardly a conclusive result. Now, the leave vote is where things get murky.

The vote to leave is highly ambiguous and should NOT be interpreted as a desire to leave the single market. The referendum was strictly about EU membership – the ballot paper clearly asked about membership. Indeed, the leave campaign primarily fouced on reducing immigration, increasing our opportunity to strike trafe deals further afield, pay less to the EU budget, and what have you… Nevertheless, despite what the campaigner voiced, the referendum only pertained to EU membership. Factually, it had nothing to do with relations, alignment, or correspondence with the EU. It would be unreasonable to assume all leave voters were only concerned with immigration. Once again, the vote to leave is ambiguous, but I can guarantee that all leave voters definitely wanted to terminate EU membership.

Now this brings me to discuss the Norway style deal by means of EEA membership. Brexiters were also in support of EEA membership because the UK could have control over its fishing and agriculture and not be under the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. This was a practical solution considering the narrow margin of the vote and the various reasons people had for voting leave. It would certainly not have been a betrayal of the referendum because the referendum only pertained to EU membership. Once again, the desires of the vocal leave campaigners do not have any weighting on the factuality of the referendum, in that it was only about EU membership.

The Norway offer was proposed to Theresa May, but it was rejected because it wouldn't be in the 'will' of the British people. The British people were never consulted about EEA membership. Neverthless, the conservatives were determined to deliver a hard brexit (taking us out of the single market and creating trade barriers, which were unnecessary) all under the pretence of being sovereign.

The 2019 conservative election victory to 'get brexit done' was achieved due to our first past the post voting system. In actuality, 43% of the electorate voted for the conservatives.

Now what is the UK left with? A hard brexit which took us out of the single market, trade barriers, fall in living standards. All under the pretense that the EU was holding us back in terms of trade and we needed to be a 'global Britain'. Let's not forget that 80% of our trade is with the EU. So the act of intentionally erecting trade barriers with such an important trade partner is irrational. No wonder we have become a laughing stock to the EU. Inept and corrupt politicians with their delusional thinking have left the UK in a predicament.

No one in their right mind would rejoining the FAILED EU be nothing but insanity.,, Germany is in terminal decline and in recession, and it is now closely followed by the other main Countries. Britain has not followed down the EU>Weare expanding The Economic Institute has published the real figures proving everything you have said is utter rubbish.. If any thing else it has proved beyond any doubt that tyhe EU is a nasty dictatorship , and spiteful and coercive, and never DEMOCRATIC, which you all claim.

The UK has no chance of rejoining the EU for many, many years. For those who think it may happen due to tabloid gossip your dreaming. We had special privlleges before and now told the EU members to screw themselves. How do you think they would take it… we've got no chance for 20-30 years. Congrats all those who voted Leave, being warped by the Politician lies. Don't moan now deal with your choice, you wanted this.

  20. @vicranger6876

Actually no one in the UK liked being part of the EU. The EU is a sewer and that sewer is collapsing.

  21. @RenghisKhan

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Brexit worked out well for Europe, in every country the people who wanted to leave have become silent.

As far as rejoining is concerned, maybe in thirty years but probably later and without any of the perks (like keeping the pound). The two party system will probably also have to change but most importantly all of people currently in politics in the EU will have to have moved on (or rather passed away) because their trust in GB as a serious member state has gone.
Apart from that, joining as GB will probably not be allowed, England, Northern Ireland and Scotland will most likely only be allowed to rejoin as totally autonomous countries.

Last but not least, we don't NEED the British, we are doing quite well without the extra economic competition. I don't, for example, see France or Germany welcoming an extra car industry within the European borders, if by that time there's a British car industry left at all.

I think the realisation of how big a mistake Brexit was has not dawned on the people in England, the people in Northern Ireland and in Scotland know but the English still don't realise how sweet a deal they had.

  22. @GCS88

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

They definitely can rejoin, but I pray to all Gods that we dont take them back, they were a problematic partner when they were a member and they were still the same shit on their way out and up until today they blame the EU for whats happened. Just NO.
They made their bed, let them slowly die on it.

Nobody in Europe wants you back!!! We were so happy when you finally said goodbye in 2020.

  26. @abelbouza1229

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

What about a poll in the EU about UK rejoining? Mi guessing is UK right wing politicians created such a mess (Thatcher, UKIP, Cameron, the Fat Guy…) that I'm not sure EU will agree with an eventual rejoining of a problematic country, even we miss brittish people.

  27. @user-cd6sq8yi4x

    What’s in it for Europe

  28. @yoruneko34

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Brexit is just the symptom of the abysmal British political class, itself representative of an arbitrary repartition of wealth based on medieval nonsense, that gives the British an illusion of exceptionalism and superiority. Not only did they deserved a roundhouse kick in the balls, but even better they gave it to themselves. Enjoy.

  29. @ElzariusUnity

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

At this point Russia is more likely to be a EU member than Britian.

  30. @Chris-ki2dx

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Realistically speaking, it can only happen in 20-30 years, when the British people will be confronted with enough stagnation and lack of the opportunities for both young and older people. THEN they will want to rejoin wholeheartedly, accept integration, accept Euro, accept Schengen etc etc.

  31. @carlogardella5808

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Nope. Let them enjoy their splendid isolation, in their rocky island

  32. @mahatofficialvlog444

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Yeah it’s wrong decision to leave European Union for British government

  33. @schneeweisser261

    January 4, 2024 at 10:24 am

Nobody likes Brexit anymore? then you have a problem. After the "the EU is evil" campagne nobody likes the UK anymore. So even if the UK wants to rejoin it is not sure if we let them. And after them screwing up their own economy it is the question if they quallify. And I am very sorry but the UK will not get the same deal they had. And they will have to wait as aspirant member for years.
