Surviving in Kuwait’s ‘unbearable’ heat – BBC News
The Middle East is heating up at twice the global average, and Kuwait now regularly sees temperatures above 50C.
Kuwait’s economy is dominated by fossil fuel exports but as the temperature rises more and more of Kuwait is becoming desert and it becomes harder to live with the extreme heat.
With the mercury topping 53C, three Kuwaiti citizens – an influencer, a weather forecaster and a retired civil servant – raise the alarm with concerns about “how much longer we can consider Kuwait habitable”
They urge that Kuwait must not be allowed to get any hotter – and one of them has a solution to offer.
BBC Life at 50C looks at extreme heat around the world.

US hits ‘dozens’ of Iranian sites in strikes, as Iran targets US bases in region | BBC News
The US said it has hit “dozens” of Iranian military targets in overnight attacks, in response to Iran hitting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The military said it struck “air-defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats”, using aircraft, ships, and drones – including “one-way attack sea drones for the first time”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade,” the US military said. “Iran does not control it”.
In response, Iran said it targeted US bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait and also radar systems in Oman.

Trump demands 20% toll on cargos passing through strait of Hormuz | BBC News
President Donald Trump has said the US is reinstating a naval blockade of Iranian ports and will impose a 20% charge on all cargo shipped through the Strait of Hormuz following days of escalating strikes between the two countries.
He said this would stop “Iran’s ships or customers” from entering or leaving the key oil shipping route, but “all other countries will have fair and open use of the Strait”.
Iran’s foreign minister later said whoever provides safe passage “should be compensated for this service”, but Iran would remain the strait’s “GUARDIAN” – using Trump’s word.
Tehran and Washington clashed over the strait’s control after exchanging strikes in the region overnight and on Monday.
The US said it carried out strikes against military targets in Iran, targeting air defence systems, coastal radars, and missile and drone sites. Iran said it responded by striking US military bases in Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain, and radars in Oman.

New explosions near Iranian port cities, says state media | BBC News
Explosions have been heard near two Iranian port cities, Bandar Abbas and Bushehr, state media has reported.
It comes after another night of strikes between the US and Iran, with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it hit two UAE tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US facilities in Jordan and Bahrain.
The UAE called the attack “brazen”, adding that an Indian crew member was killed and eight others were injured.
Meanwhile, the US military says it completed strikes on targets aimed at degrading “Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping” – Iranian state media reports three people were killed.

US launches more strikes on Iran and resumes naval blockade of ports | BBC News
The US military said it was carrying out a new wave of strikes on targets in Iran. It said the aim of the attacks was to degrade Iran’s ability to attack shipping in the strait of Hormuz. It came ass the US Navy resumed its blockade of Iran’s ports.
Iran said that control of the strait of Hormuz was required for its national security and it will exercise sovereignty over the key shipping lane, whatever the cost.
President Trump announced that he was scrapping a plan he had announced a day earlier, for placing a 20% toll or tariff on all cargos passing through the strait of Hormuz.

I lived in Kuwait for 3 Years, and believe me it is not as bad as people say it is. Even at 53 Degrees, you wouldn't drench in sweat and get dehydrated to your core due to the relatively low humidity. Sure Kuwait is very dry. but it is not as humid as Singapore, Malaysia and other equatorial countries. I am a Bangladeshi, and believe me the summers in Kuwait are much more tolerable than in my own country. IDK what that "influencer" was saying, but it never feels like the heat is sucking the life out of you

While her determination is great, planting some trees and bringing water in a truck and using a hose to put water doesn’t do absolutely anything. They should have a large scale initiative to create a sustainable green belt like the weather person said.

They need to look at both active and passive systems to controls the temperature outside and also within buildings. There’s much to be learned from passive cooling methods used in vernacular architecture ( local and foreign) . These paired with modern knowledge can do so much to reduce energy consumption and make livable houses.

Me eating ice cream 5x in a day and 1 liter water. I am living in Kuwait for 10 years and work in the mall. The people who suffers most are EXPATS who can’t afford to have CARS. Kuwaities and other people with big salaries can survive the heat! It’s us who rides bus and taxis and wait for long time under the heat that is severely affected by this. We ride buses 2x a day in 50 degrees heat. These people have carsssss!!!!!

The heat is the least of the problems in this shithole country. Third world internet service, roads full of potholes, and 75% of population is foreigners to work for their lazy asses. We should have let Iraq carpet bomb this dumpsterfire country, couldn't have turned out worse than its current state.

As a person who was born in Kuwait and raised there. I can say most of this is true. But many people complaining about humidity. That’s a fib. The humid season starts in august and ends in September with a humidity of 30% (minimum) and 65%(highest). My country of origin is in South Asia, where we experience 80%-90% humidity in July. So it’s a cakewalk to live in Kuwait.

For what i know, Kuwait has the most highest life standard in the world, with an income of 4500/6000 dollars per person…
They can afford the air conditioning, especially since it is probably one of the culprit, the principal culprit, for global warming….
You people should shut up and take it as 50%of the oil comes from you people… Emirates, the Middle East!!!!!!
You got the nerve to complain!!!!!!

Even if fossil fuel usage was cut 100%, Kuwait would still be very, very hot. Its always been a desert, long before the motor engine was ever invented! It won't suddenly turn into a tropical paradise (although it won't keep getting hotter and hotter at least!)
