Common in WV USA. My grandmother used to make soups with it.

Soy Skin is amazing. You can flavour it and then roll it up to make fake meats, the texture can be quite amazing. Especially for simulating chicken.

Canada mentioned again. I'm really wondering what they think Canadian food is 😂
You need to try our native Opuntia cactus. Yes, we have cactus too.

I thought that last one was Halva… something I used to get back in the 80s. 🙂

You're going to need to try harder for something to be considered exotic to me. I know and have eaten all of these ingredients. My first introduction to hominy was pozole, pork sausage is used in a traditional bahn mi, halva candy from a friend at Christmas reminded me of Chinese almond cookies and I don't think anyone mention it, but bean curd skin is used in Chinese dessert soup as well. I love all of these foods!

I was surprised to see hominy on there. I’m from the states and it’s extremely common. I have it in my cupboard right now and I’m just a little white girl lol. I prefer the yellow hominy.

Lemon isn't a needed ingredient of paella, some like it with a drip afterwards but it's never cooked into it. Paella doesn't have paprika, it has ñora (a type of small bell pepper sundried). Paella goes best with beer or cava (Spanish sparkling white wine).

Anything else, they overcomplicated it (paella is cooked in the same paella pan) but it's less egregious than chorizo paella or taco paella.

Hominy saved lives, the lack of that processing knowledge is why it never took off in Europe as the poor ate just corn and became very malnourished and got some horrific disease as a result, Tasting History did an informative segment on it.

Where can we find the recipe for the pozole you made?

So odd to me as an American that you've never heard of hominy before! But I'm sure that makes sense you haven't. Even from Midwest US not even southwest we have hominy in all the grocery stores.

The vietnamese sausage looks so good. Imagine giving it a lil fry in a saute pan before putting in the banh mi. 🤤🤤🤤

🤯I knew what every one of these was. Neat. My fave is halva; loved it since I was small. Don't much care for the sausage in soup but haven't tried it in bahn mi. Tofu skin is my least fave way to et soybeans… but I ADORE inari. And my mum's fave soup is posole!

Hominy is a staple in the American South. It's hard to believe that the British have never heard of something so common.

Life of boris made halva from what i remember

Sorted comes off very worldly but then it surprises me when I find they've never had pozole (hominy) or o-inari (tofu skin) or halva.

Halwa or halva just means sweet. This is called tahinia in arabic. Turkish delight is called halwa

Helva crumbled over ice-cream is the best

I grew up eating hominy fried in butter, with breakfast sausage links and brown gravy, mostly because it was a cheap meal, and could be breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's still my ultimate comfort food.
