I've eaten some tinned/canned food when camping I wouldn't consider eating at home, including beef stew and canned chicken.

My biggest gripe with tinned food is how often they're bad because of cost-cutting.

I love tinned ingredients because they are so readily available in the majority of supermarkets around the world that contain stuff like jackfruit which is as fresh as when it was harvested and packaged in its native countries of India and Malaysia, and people in the UK, Brazil, Canada, Australia, literally everywhere can get hold of this ingredient that’s still fresh which wouldn’t be possible without the tinning process 👍🏻

I don’t know how that cheeseburger in a can is sellable food because both of the cheeseburgers looked less appetising than dog food, I mean I wouldn’t even feed that to my dog because prisoners in Alcatraz get better meals than what was sealed in that tin 😂

I love that a pro chef can take tin food and make a delicious dish out of it. A mark of a pro cheif. I'd love to see one day if Ebers ( apologies if I spelled your name wrong.) Could fool another pro cheif this way like Ramsey or someone. Video idea? Maybe. I think so.

For singles with limited resources and little mobility, one can of pulled pork would be several days of dinners with a few sides like mac & cheese and corn muffins.

As someone who grew up in a household in England with Jamaican heritage, I got so excited when I saw ackee and cheered when Ben brought out the saltfish and ackee. When I was in secondary school and did food technology in my first year, we had an end of year 'cook-off' where we could cook anything we wanted in 2hrs so long as we knew how to make it. Of course, I made saltfish and ackee and my classmates loved it. Half of them had no idea what it was nor that it was Jamaican (I'm not the sort of person you see and think 'Jamaican' immediately) but I still won joint second place! (My best friend won with her sushi dish which we both still joke about today) But I think this really shows how just exposing kids to dishes they've never seen or heard of before makes them realise how good other country's food is and educates their palates :))

I love jackfruit in its fresh form but I've always found it disgusting whenever it's used as a substitute for meat or in weird dishes where it's not treated as a fruit

i really love when you guys point out that a food that is used as a meat alternative doesn't hold up to what we expect nutritionally from specific foods – i'm coming up for a decade of being vegan and to this day it's still my biggest beef (ha) with a lot of vegan foods, both marketed replacements (coconut oil based cheeses i'm lookin at u) and dishes/recipes, like the jackfruit. it's important to be aware of those discrepancies, so we're able to account for it and make up for that lost protein/iron/etc elsewhere in another ingredient, another meal, and people not realising that they need to do that is in my experience why so many ppl struggle with things like energy levels when they try to go veggie.

Even at its best and fresh in S.E. Asia, Jackfruit is fun to eat but not particularly flavorful.

Spam is an international food. Mainly due to WW2. The US canned so much, and it was sent everywhere, that locals embraced it and made it their own. So many good spam recipes from around the world, but especially the southern ocean areas that the Japanese were trying to conquer.
You don't want to know how much canned spam i have in my pantry! ^-^ Along with canned hams, canned beef, canned tuna, etc etc.
