Ukrainian troops under close gunfire in newly liberated village – BBC News
President Putin is tightening his grip on Ukrainian territory, which Russia partially controls, as Ukraine continues to take back more ground on the battlefield.
Despite pressure growing on the Russian leader, he is showing no signs of de-escalation as he has announced that martial law will be enforced in the four areas of Ukraine occupied by Russia, which Moscow claims it has annexed.
Meanwhile, a village in recently liberated eastern Ukraine is now on the front line. Fighting, on the front line near the city of Lyman in eastern Ukraine, involves not only artillery strikes but also close-quarters combat, as the BBC’s Jonathan Beale finds out.

More than 600 people have died following Wednesday’s devastating flash flood in Nepal.
At least 2,426 people are missing, Nepal’s disaster management authority says, as rescue operations continue for a fourth day.
Families of the missing – including at least 517 foreign nationals – are waiting for news on the whereabouts of their loved ones.

It’s nearly eight weeks since Russia invaded Ukraine, forcing about four million people to flee their homes.
So far only 12,000 of them have reached the UK – and that’s partly down to delays in granting visas.
Residents in the town of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, Scotland, say they are making it their mission to welcome as many Ukrainians as possible.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has apologised for the “frustrating” visa delays which have prevented thousands of Ukrainian refugees entering the UK.
