Male contraceptive pill a real possibility, say scientists – BBC News
A non-hormonal male contraceptive pill may be a real possibility, say scientists who have found a switch that stops sperm from being able to swim.
In an early study in mice, the pill caused the sperm to stay stunned for about three hours.
Researchers think users could take the contraceptive pill an hour before sex, and keep an eye on the time for when it wears off.
Many more tests are planned and needed, moving to rabbits before people.
“The fact that it is able to act, and be reversed, so quickly is really quite exciting,” Prof Allan Pacey, professor of andrology at the University of Sheffield, said.

Cyber Attack: Ransomware causing chaos globally – BBC News
Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

Is this AI’s moment of truth? | BBC News
A year ago, artificial intelligence was being sold as something close to science fiction — a technology that could transform society, cure disease, even reshape the global economy.
Today, the tone is changing. The companies leading the revolution are racing to the stock market — chasing billions in investment — while quietly confronting a much harder reality: AI is expensive, unpredictable, and far from profitable.
At the same time, some of the very people building this technology are warning we may be going too fast — even calling for a global pause.
And beyond Silicon Valley, a different story is emerging: growing public anxiety, political backlash, and the rise of what some are calling anti-AI populism.
So is AI entering its most pivotal moment yet — caught between financial pressure, technological risk, and political resistance?
AI Decoded Presenter Christian Fraser is joined by Financial Times AI Editor Madhumita Murgia, Thematic Strategist at Deutsche Bank Research Adrian Cox and Richard Coffin, Host of popular investing podcast ‘ The Plain Bagel’.

this thing will be great. I honestly can't see a single issue with this. Like so far I haven't seen a single anti-contraceptive argument that makes sense, so idk why people are so against it

As a man, I think this is a brilliant idea. I’m just disappointed we didn’t have it sooner. We only have 2 options for birth control which is either condoms or a vasectomy. Having a hormonal birth control not only gives us more freedom of choice but also helps equalise the responsibility of safer sex.

I like this idea, and government should enforce this medical treatment. After a decade medical scientists will find out that male population dieing sooner than their life span, and their lives are shortened. That's another way of achieving goal anyway

There is another option for male birth control : the heat based method.

This is a terrible idea.
A woman's ovaries are naturally cyclic, meaning that throughout her entire reproductive life they naturally fire up and then shut down again each month, meaning they're naturally accustomed to being dormant and therefore respond very well to chemically-induced dormancy, usually returning to 100% of prior function within a matter of a couple of months of cessation of chemically induced dormancy (i.e. the contraceptive pill) even after multiple years of use.
In total contrast to this are the testes. In a healthy male, the testes are constantly active throughout his entire life from the onset of puberty until his death. They therefore have no natural adaptation to dormancy and respond terribly to chemically-induced shutdown. Without regular administration of another exogenous hormone (HCG) to stimulate their leydig cells, they'll physically atrophy to the point of permanent physical damage if this is allowed to continue for long enough. And even if HCG were to be administered and atrophy were avoided, on cessation of the chemically induced shutdown (in this case, the male pill), there's a good chance that it could take years for the testes to return to their prior function, that's assuming they ever do at all.
We now have decades of very good data, both laboratory and real-world, on the recovery of the testes after chemically induced shutdown, thanks to the millions of men who've used either anabolic steroids or male HRT (which is essentially just a low dose of an anabolic steroid; synthetic testosterone) and it proves beyond any doubt that deliberately shutting them down for long periods is a very bad idea indeed.

Reading these comments it's no wonder half the people are running around with STDs! Men you have a condom you can wear yet cry about being "tricked" by women…….smdh Youre being reduced to nothing more than animals. Sex used to mean something special. I feel sad for today's youth, I wouldn't want the men or females on offer today
