How is Interpol experimenting with policing the metaverse? – BBC News
Interpol is experimenting with metaverse technology to research threats and provide officers with remote training.
It also has plans to use it as an investigatory tool.
The force’s role is to connect police forces across international borders to fight threats such as organised crime, terrorism and cyber-crime.
Madam Oberi, executive director of technology and innovation at Interpol, said threats on the metaverse could be on “existing media” and some could be new to the technology.

Tens of thousands of organisations have been caught out by a computer virus called WannaCry. The malicious software locks data away and demands a payment of up to $300 (£230) a time before it will restore scrambled files. In the UK, many hospitals fell victim and some health organisations diverted ambulances and cancelled non-essential services as they sought to contain and clean up the infection. Infections in more than 99 nations are being reported by security firms. It appears that the hardest hit are Russia and Spain.

The metaverse isn't restricted to VR and environments with personal avatars. The concept of the metaverse is that all computer generated reality is the metaverse. This includes offline games that have no real world connection to other people. Protecting personal identity, including metaphysical ones is important. Theft and trade of online identities has been a thing for decades. World of Warcraft is one of the first metaverses that has a crypto currency that was/is exchanged for real world money called RMT. Invasion of privacy is something that happens on a daily basis, as well. Good luck.

The code of conduct among the avatars should be defined by the moderators of that particular room. Some may allow sexual expression and tolerate insults and others may not. That's how it's always been on the internet. You can't truly harrass someone. They can always quit the simulation, while they cannot quit their job or school. I fear there is a deeper purpose in creation of the metaverse. It is to finally introduce tough policing across the internet, to prevent acts like copyright infringement.

Online Harassment has existed in the Metaverse for over a Decade. The real crime is when it is taken into the physical world, where harassment and stalking take place against targeted individuals. I have first hand experience with this and have gained a huge amount of knowledge surrounding this phenomenon, now known as a crime.
It is about time law enforcement catches up to what happens in cyber spaces.
