I find it fascinating how much Mike and Baz struggle to follow a basic recipe.
"Put in X amount of this ingredient." , "yeah, but how about not?" and by the end of it they're baffled why it didn't turn out like recipe.

"gender stereotyping" where ? why hate on something from a different time for being different ? isn´t that what you are trying to celebrate all the time ?

am i the only one who finds it weird that the recipe uses egg shells? like at all?

This is hilarious. In my early 20's, forty years ago, my historian brother gave me a copy of Mrs Beaton's book of Household Management.
The care of 'the staff' is still my favourite bits.

Along with instructions for the Dairy Maid, the Footmen etc is the very important care of the Wetnurse. She needs lots of food and 'Porter' (BEER!) as a daily beverage. So kind and sensible.
    😅

Guys I got an idea! “Too many cooks in the kitchen!” Get every non chef on your staff and put them all in the kitchen working on the same dish.

Some of Mrs Beeton's weren't workable according to my Gran….who was an excellent baker. She suggested the book is packed with untried recipes 'to fill the edition'.

Mike is a diva. Jamie is a bully. Barry is level.

Mike's sadness when he saw it is in imperial is so real. I use imperial daily living in the US. It F*@$ING sucks

now you know how we feel trying to work out metric measurements!

  17. @sparkyzfan2608

A question for those that might know.. was that a silicone spoon they used to stir the custard? Don’t think the “it’s ready when it sticks to the spoon“ method would work with silicone. 1800’s probably metal or wood spoon?

I have used Mrs. Beeton's cookbook to make a few things. I am a professional Chef but not versed in English cooking procedures as I am American. I have made Scones and Macarons with her recipes and a few roast meats. You must remember that this style of cooking was meant to be done by a head cook with at least 2 other people working under her.

My family used to make this on Christmas back when big dinners were a thing.

I realize I'm so late to the party, but Barry's long hair is doing wonderful things for him. 👀

  21. @bobbob465

    December 26, 2023 at 8:39 am

It's astounding: Give Barry a recipe and he does 5 times worse than if he was winging it.

He gets bored faster than Jamie cutting julienne.

  22. @zimeron1

    December 26, 2023 at 8:39 am

It didn't occur to me why this was called a Garibaldi cream until the reveal that it's the colors of the Italian flag, and the remembrance that this book is so old that Giuseppe Garibaldi, leader of recently unified Italy, was alive and still in office at the time of publishing.

  23. @kamanama3671

    December 26, 2023 at 8:39 am

Seeing Bretz struggle with ounces is way funnier than watching me struggle with the metric system.

Lol this was a ride lol. Fun video, chaps!! Loved loved loved seeing Kush in the new video!! He's a gem!

    More of this, 10000% more.

  26. @andy70d35

    December 26, 2023 at 8:39 am

What the hell is an ounce? Barry needs to go back to school, I use metric for cooking but imperial for everything else, ie woodwork.

    December 26, 2023 at 8:39 am

Not gonna lie, though, that actually looks delicious.
