As somebody who has been using Rajah, East End, Map and TRS since the early nineties, I concur

I have a jar of that premium mustard in my fridge. It struck me as pretty damn unimpressive. It smells like plain, American yellow mustard — and the taste isn't much beyond that.

I know mustards age badly, so maybe my jar lost some zing. But the best-by date is March 2024.

I go for the taste more than cost. Especially for mustard. I don’t like ones that blow my head off. However, when it comes to Horseradish I would gladly pay premium if I could get it with grated horseradish root in it.

Mustard should be banned from sales. It absolutely ruins the flavour of everything it is in or on. The mere smell makes me sick . It is banned from my house. It is devils food the same as horseradish.

    mustard math is hard 😀
2, 50 pund pr kilo and 14 pund pr kilo…. more then 10 times the price??
    2,50 * 10 is 25 pund?

dont bother with premium powder honestly find a specialty store and buy the dried chilies and make your own powder.. My home made chili powder is way better than anything you get in a store because you have freshness and have chosen the varieties and quantities

  19. @LilyJHall

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

I’m slightly confused that there two “L”s in chili powder. Is that how it’s always spelt in the UK? Where I live, I usually see “chili” powder. I’ve also seen powdered chiles and I have some Kashmiri in my cupboard that says “chilli” powder.

I usually buy my chiles from one of the Latin American markets in my area. There I can find chiles en polvo, ajís en polvo, ajís molidos, and chiles molidos. Sometimes ají is also pluralized ajíes. Whether the Spanish uses ají or chile seems to depend on where the product is from, or which culture it is most common in.
All of the things that I’ve mentioned are broadly two different types of spices. Powdered chiles are literally ground up chiles, whereas chili powders are ground chiles combined with other spices.

I can tell real good pesto cause i'm mildly allergic to pine nuts. If it's got that dank taste and gives me a mild itch inside the ears, I know it's the good stuff.

  24. @nottsoserious

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

The Kashmiri chilli is quite fluff honestly, I can bet that the cheap one and the premium one are very similar. I use this ingredient on a daily basis.

  25. @colin101981

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

That was so interesting – thank you guys.

Offering of a very budget friendly meal – our little family calls 'baked beano' – it's tin baked beans in the bottom of a small dish, covered with mash potato. Now; depending on finance the mash could have cheese through or cheaper, just a cheese topping. Either one is gorgeous. Another hack – I'm disabled so need very convenient and easy options. Supermarket frozen mash does the job very well.

Loving your channel guys and subscribed.

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Waitrose and Sainsbury's are the "budget" options!? I mean, I can get a litre of cider vinegar from my local supermarket for about 70 cents.

  29. @linebrunelle1004

I buy 4 kinds, brands and price range of mustards. Very particular on certain things but usually have different olive oils for different purposes, etc.

Love your videos and have been binge watching them. However, just one point of correction; Kashmir is not a part of India. They have illegally/forcefully occupied it and have been carrying out ethnic cleansing there for many years, killing their kids, men and raping their women. They like to take everything from Kashmir and label it Indian, just like the region itself. Just though you should know that not everything available online about origin of spices is accurate.

  32. @dawnelder9046

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

When you make your own apple cidar vinegar it is much more apple tasting.

  33. @huggledemon32

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

I don’t know if it’s been done already, but I feel like chilli pastes would be a good one to try!?- I find many different pastes (for thai curries in my case) have different levels of heat AND flavour which make it important to chose “the right one”

  34. @martincook6699

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Apple vinegar is not the same as apple cider vinegar. The latter has an anaerobic followed by an aerobic fermentation the former only an aerobic fermentation. The belazu seems to me to be apple vinegar. By the way apple vinegar is very easy to make from apple 'waste' and spring water and air and time . The cult of apple cider vinegar just seems to be a way of making a cheap product into an expensive luxury item.

  35. @JT-hq2cc

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Kashmiri Chilies. I use it for everyday cooking. I buy the cheapest I can find it. I prefer whole to ground myself (grind, pound, soak and puree, etc) vs powdered though – when you grind it yourself it tastes better and lasts longer without going stale as fast (like any dry spice really).
    m
Premium Kashmiri chili powder doesn't make any sense to me (but that's because it's like any other ingredient to me). I wouldn't buy premium pre-ground black pepper for everyday food either.

Maybe I'd buy premium whole pepper corns if I wanted for a specific application ,but that too I'd have to have a specific use case.

  36. @guzimirHR

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

A serious word of warning (I just watched the video after I stumbled upon this information)- in a spice shop where I occasionally shop they had to recall quite a number of TRS products within just last year- govt inspection and analysis showed that cumin powder contained pesticides (some batches also another chemical, banned in EU as well), cumin seeds ETO (ethylene oxide), cinnamon sulphates…

  37. @bcaye

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Insane to think of premium pesto.
I grow basil in a flowerpot. It tastes delicious. Yet I get the best olive oil and only use pine nuts. I freeze it, so the parmesan has to be added after thawing and if it's just pasta and sauce, it will be reggianno. A dish like this it would be good cheese, but not premium.

  38. @alexandrasmith7682

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Thank you for introducing me to an amazing apple vinegar 😘

  39. @CaptainBlueSmoke

So informative of the ingredients and I never thought I'd ever hear Ebber's say "Don't suck it". I darn near sprayed coffee through my nose. The guy makes me laugh at his comments. Thanks again for the superb entertainment and great information.

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Tracklement : That definition sounds interesting… is it real… nope. Can't find any reference to that word existing outside of the brand.

    number B

  42. @SR-hj6sh

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

For us here in India, Kashmiri chilli powder is just something we add to give the food a reddish hue….

  43. @abigailgerlach5443

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

I doubt I'd know the difference between chili powders. Now, if you were talking fresh roasted Hatch green chilis, then there is a huge difference!
Kashmiri chili??? I'm buying Mexican chili powder!
I'd appreciate the premium pesto, but there is no way I'd spend that much money on it. Same answer for vinegar!
    Mustard? I'll stick with Coleman's.

  44. @kimp1466

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

We are HUGE mustard connoisseurs. No, we don’t consume a different one each week, however, we have at least 6 different styles, in two different fridges. LOL We also enjoy trying different sauces on wings, so we have an impressive variety of flavors of those, too.

  45. @sarahpurcell1109

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Please do one of the premium taste testing with ketchup and try Dr Will's ketchup a chilli jam and red wine for a Bolognese. Love these videos they're my favourite 😍

  46. @pookhahare

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

    Glad know about kashmiri chili

  47. @pookhahare

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

When they split I would probably go with basic.

  48. @jaroslavcharvat5171

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Well, 2,50 and 14 pounds per kilo mustard is not "more than ten times the price", let Ben cook and ask someone else to do the maths. 🙂

  49. @brandijrivera4968

    December 25, 2023 at 3:15 pm

Hey guys can you please translate pounds to American 🇺🇸 money as well.
