5:30 Idiott, you said "from" instead of "for" when the text says the matter & IT'S A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

  3. @H.H.NotAnExpert

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

So I suppose if you make a giant model rocket that goes above the von Kármán line, you not only probably have to inform the government and get a license for air traffic conrolling purposes, but they may be treaty obligated to inform other countries about it.

  4. @H.H.NotAnExpert

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

5:22 The difference between "from" and "for" there is pretty important, mate.

If humans can terraform Mars, it would be one of the greatest feats for humanity as a whole, but the whole argument about not being able to own land on other Celestial bodies is pretty stupid. How are nations plenty of years away from other planets going to be able to enforce the rules of people on other bodies of land?

( Sounds like the relationship between the first US settlers and Great Britain. You know how that ended up )

It's not like NASA, ESA, or other space companies formed from governments on earth have the supplies or even power to govern/enforce laws on people very far away from them.

( Every president in the USA has something different to say about space; funding can go up or down depending on the leader at the time with will slow down both NASA progress not sure about ESA )

If we do end up terraforming the red planet, taxes from other earth countries won't be able to be enforced on the first Martian settlers. Taxes enforced by earth countries will only work if the taxes gained from the Martian Settlers are solely used to build up the red planet from the ground up and not given to any problems we face on earth. If countries try making the first Martian settlers or settlers from any other celestial body pay taxes on things that don't help them in general. I would be 90% certain that it would cause an uprising like in the American Civil War.

Most of the things I said probably won't come to fruition until will live in the age where faraway celestial bodies become habitable, and space as a whole becomes a place where everyone wants to go to and is widely accessible to the public. Space companies that help the first people of countries formed on Mars will most likely benefit as they would become allies of those nations like how we have it here, but more stuff will be shared among the two allies like space tech, resources, etc.

The year is 2150 – Who owns Space? The same people that "own" us and our little rock, the ruling "elites" and corporations.

  10. @pedrowalter

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

Laws from one country are not valid in another country. As well laws from earth are not valid in another planet or celestial body. Period !!!
Those treaty where sign on earth.!!
Is like USA and Canada sign a treaty that Mexico belongs to them.!!!
Mars is another planet with his own laws

  15. @dansimmons21

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

Very interesting video, but what if you have multiple citizenships and commit a crime, like illegally downloading Pirates of the Caribbean, in international waters or in space? Which country would be responsible for charging you with the crime?

  16. @dr.victorvs

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

I don't think the term "international law" is meant to be interpreted that way. There are international laws and treaties about many things other than international waters, you know. It's more likely to be talking about the Outer Space Treaty and the other treaties you mentioned that are specifically about space.

Finally, each country is free to charge or not charge their citizens about crimes they may commit elsewhere. They may well decide not to try a citizen that commits a crime in another jurisdiction. Conversely, there are countries that charge citizens for crimes they may commit under different jurisdiction.

I guess with the amount of space-related projects coming up now and the entering of China and India alongside US, Russia and EU in space acitivies it will need some more laws soon to avoid confrontations in and about space in the future.

  38. @cravingtuna1561

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

Fun fact: earth has a planetery flag

  39. @edwardblair4096

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

If I wanted to own a particular piece of land somewhere, I would first try to determine who currently owns it. If it is a person or company, then I would enter negotiations to buy it. If it is not owned by a person, then I would approach the national, or possibly the sub-national, government that has jurisdiction and attempt to buy it from them. When you buy something like a house, and the land it stands on, you make sure the person you are buying it from is the actual owner of the property, has title to it, and has the authority to sell it to you.
For "land" in space, if you are not personally powerful enough to enforce your claim, where are you going to find someone to transfer ownership to you, when the traditional source of "original ownership", i.e. national governments, are forbidden from ownership?

  40. @stevenlodge4295

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

I think flat earthers own the moon and mars. that's where they're trying to convince the world flat. so no one realises their true secret

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

This dude has the British R like crazzzzy. You know the one – where the R sound comes from lower lip and teeth, instead of curling back the tongue. It sounds like a cross between an R and a V. It's a completely unfair and irrational pet peeve of mine.

  43. @nick5661

  45. @StefanRadermacher

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am

So, say there was some kind of rogue government that didn't care much for international treaties and that government felt that it was a beautiful idea to withdraw from the Outer Space Treaty and then proceeded to claim the Moon for their country. What then?

  46. @Cunnysmythe

    December 21, 2023 at 11:03 am
