It's actually hard to see the different between the parties these days as they overlap a lot. When i was a child in the early 70s, it felt like the Tories represented the rich and Labour represented the working classes. My family was working class so we voted Labour. That's how it was. As i got older i learned that there was supposed to be an ideology behind each party. Labour should nationalise everything and run it for the people whilst the Conservatives would privatise everything and thing would be run without government interference: laissez faire.
But as an older person now, who still traditionally votes Labour, i can't really see an ideology there anymore; on any side in fact – unless you go to the extremes. I realised I'm voting for Labour because they're not the Tories rather than what they stand for. They don't seem to display the socialist ideology that is in my heart and that i want Labour to be. I looked at the Labour Party website and could see nothing that said left wing or socialist. I'm wondering why i vote for them at all. Love him or loathe him, at least Corbyn tried to make it clear what Labour stood for ideologically, whether folk agreed or not. At least you could say, yes that's me or no, I'm voting elsewhere. Granted he wasn't the personality the party needed as a leader, but you know where they stood.

What he stands for won't count for much when if Labour got electable, with gobble leftie assassins lining up behind him to depose him.Rayner,Cooper,Milliband and Lammy are poised with Corbyn pulling their strings

This manifesto screams inflation, all they always do. I wish there was a party who promised to do nothing significant, raise interest rates and reduce the national debt

I think this would be great.for the most part. The 2 child cap needs to stay, we need to focus on getting the millions into work who are sat on universal credit. This is only possible if we are creating opportunities for people to work. The problem with universal credit is it creates learned helplessness. I appreciate it is a fantastic concept and we need to help people… We need to also make sure we don't sink the economy.

Part of the eco policy is flawed in that we have bad housing. We need to be building and thinking about the future, current building standards are only ok. We need to train out labourers to know how to build passive houses. Little to no builders know about Heat recovery ventilation and building to a standard that creates a super tight building envelope. To create a society where we are carbon positive we need to be doing this. We need to build properties that are also primed for solar generation. Some new builds near my home were rebuilt 3 times!!! Just because of a workforce and project managers who didn't have a clue what they had to do. I would love to make my home more environmentally friendly. However to do this the cost is not affordable, especially as a family with a child and not earning the substantial money needed to make my home greener and warmer.

it was interesting, me and a friend (who both strongly dislike Corbyn) came across the labour manifesto from 2019 but believed it to be the current manifesto. With the exception of one key area we were beyond impressed by the policies inside and found ourselves begging for a Labour government. I honestly believe if Keir Starmer could just have Corbyn's domestic policy without being Corbyn (and with a more robust foreign policy) he could waltz to victory.

Couldn’t tell you of one solid labour policy googled it been on their site can only get vague visions of a britain they want but nothing onhow they will achieve it. End work force agencies zero hour contracts so working people get the working rights and conditions back that we have lost in the last generation that our grandparents fought so hard to attain

One idea would be to simplify our political system so the general public actually has an idea WTF is going on. The whole point of a democracy is that people have the power, right now we are completely at the mercy of something few of us understand.

I just don't know what Keir Starmer stands for: apparently he's a Brexiteer but he wanted a second referendum, then he said he would nationalise transport and energy on his website but then backtracked on that, then he said he'd empower trade unions. He just can't make his mind up

  40. @felipeitoanuatti

    December 21, 2023 at 6:18 pm

I’m getting strong New Labour vibes from this, which is good. Here’s what I think.
    1. Welfare policy: the part about child poverty is really strong but I hope Labour offset the welfare payments increase with an increase in taxes and make sure the money doesn’t go to people who could otherwise support themselves.
    2. Green New Deal: full of good intentions but vague and buzz-wordy.
    3. Education policy: although maintenance grants are very important, scrapping tuition fees entirely might not be a great idea. In many countries in Europe and in Latin America, universities are free but underfunded. Here in Brazil, the children of the elite benefit disproportionately from free universities. A moderate decrease in tuition fees paired with tweaking regulations so admin costs don’t spiral out of control (as they do in the US) might be a better idea.
