It wasn’t long ago when the UK had one of the lowest food prices in Europe – but following the pandemic, the cost of food has risen dramatically. In this video, we examine the impact of higher input costs – but could it all just be connected to Brexit?

whats wrong with farmers going back to piece work and employing Britons once again , instead they would rather employ European's take rent out of wages for a shack ,and get all sorts of subsides . Add on the war in Ukraine the recent droughts in the American mid west causing fall in grain out put we can see why we arnt self sufficient and in such a poor state i don't think its Brexit just a lack of motivation and the ability to change the way the labour force is constructed the tax system as well the recent government's and mps seem to be well lets say comfortable and lazy

We Are in Unchartered Financial Waters! every day we encounter challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2023, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.

Why? The attacks by the civil service on farmers with rules and regulations out the wazzoo. The requirement to leave land fallow for ‘environmental’ purposes. Electricity inflation with expensive unreliable perpetually taxpayer subsidised green energy. Taxes on diesel. Fertiliser prices up with UK fertiliser plant closures due to high electricity prices.

the most effective way to get the economy back on track is to stop the utility companys ie gas electric water company from charging standing charges this will stop greedy companys charging an unfair tax on good people its not neccery and its out of date they earn enough money besides charging standing charges.

it's everywhere and has been for over a decade or two now. Greetings from the commonwealth. In Canada's case, the control of the distribution "supply chain" has been a Master Plan for decades among very, very few billionaires: Pattison in the west, the Weston, McCain, etc. families in the east. No real surprise that once they got the stranglehold on warehousing, they moved prices up. Walmart, in Canada, as an example, the "deals" disappeared seven years ago. Covid just bum rushed it a bit, along with some financial moves on their part. Moi? I'll change a few habits, lose a little weight, and I grow/sell all the eggs and produce I can produce at 4,000 feet. I don't go out often, and at my age the ladies have more money than I do, and so there you are!!!

We musn't forget the role of food speculation by financial and commercial investors! Even if it is only a cog in the wheel, food speculators are never talked about. During the peak of the food crisis in March 2022, 80% of all purshases on the European grain market were speculative. What does this mean ? This means that the demand for grain increases, while the offer stagnates or even drops which, in turn makes the prices sky rocket. The price of bread in Europe has increased by 15%/20% but in places like Sudan, is has more than doubled because of excessive food speculation.

  26. @FBVILLA

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

Most of ground food comes from Europe. Also, energy costs is driving prices up.

  27. @kimbo7766

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

The supermarkets are taking advantage of inflation and hiking up their prices to increase their profit margins. Strange how you do not outline this TDLR!

I'm from London England I live in Dallas Texas USA food is cheaper in Texas good food Organic but UK is supposed to be cheaper Marks & Spencer and Waitrose are a bit more than Tesco Asda and Sainburys but now your telling me its more expensive than USA. I understand that the quality is better in Europe Spain Italy Portugal that's why it's more expensive. I've been skipping some meals lately by choice because I tried to eat organic and quality but God feeds me praise Jesus. You cannot make it without God that's the point this is just the beginning and the pandemic was the first crisis to set the stage for a New World order and a digital currency starting in Europe.

If any one watches your vids to give themselves a basic understanding of Economics, they are doomed, and you in drawing the inference so you can tout Brilliant – how much it helps learning and "self improvement" – a sector of business whose devotion to a Goebbels level of "marketing" is legendary – really, surely it undermines any pretention you have of accuracy and logic? How can we trust your analysis of economic or geopolitical events when your assumption of what motivates people to watch your vids are essentially presented in a truly crawling, buttering up of the supposed intellect of the viewers. This is sub Gurgaon or Pune boiler room methods. You made much of how your vids are not "serious", but you think they still constitute education. Poor show, and with this vid ram packed with self evident, easily discovered information, this shallow offering of coffee table glister is not educational, its merely the needy babble of those who need more education themselves

  34. @FaszomTelivanGecivel

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

I'm no economist and rising food prices don't make any sense to me. Suppose wheat price goes up. What good is that to whoever increased the price? Yes, they will get more money for the wheat. But they also have to go shopping and when they buy their bread they will have to pay more for it as that went up because of the wheat and flour price hike. So whoever decides to raise prices will not end up with more purchasing power in the end, will they? What am I missing?

  35. @paullewin8615

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

As always blame Brexit. The reality is! We've been bankrupt since 2008. The main culprit is fiat paper printing by the desparate government. FACT

  42. @jiminverness

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

Why is the UK's food inflation so high?

    1. Reduced food production
    2. High energy costs
    3. Disastrous NetZero policy

    Solutions:
Ban NetZero, stop subsidies on wind and solar; own and operate cheap energy sources (use gas and coal until nuclear SMR's available, and/or thorium reactors).
Cease crazy, useless directives (such as limiting nitrogen, etc).

  43. @JetfireQuasar

    December 20, 2023 at 8:31 am

I find it absolutely appalling at the lack of research done by TLDR here.

First off before the pandemic the UK was the cheapest in the world for food which has since changed after the pandemic, both data points put the UK outside of the single market. So Brexit has obviously not caused this. What DID happen was the self destructive lockdowns.

Secondly absolutely ZERO mention of the worse economical desicion made by everyone that completely screwed up the worlds economic engine. The Lockdowns. The source of every economical problem since their implementation.

Its getting to the point that TLDR is just looking for any excuse to throw Brexit under the bus despite how bloody remote it is.

We get it you hated that it happend, but if you think its better in the EU move to Ireland. But for god sake remove the bias it ruins your objectivity.

My family eats healthy local products in France and never ever paid even close to those numbers (meals average 1.5-2€)…I wonder how they get their numbers. Here in London, to eat the same, I have to pay £5-6…I’m really not sure what constitutes healthy in their studies, the only expensive things in France is meat…which is not that healthy…
