6 children reported killed collecting water in Gaza – Israel blames “technical error” | BBC News

Published

10 people, including six children, have been killed in an Israeli drone strike while waiting to fill water containers in central Gaza, according to emergency service officials.

Their bodies were sent to Nuseirat’s al-Awda Hospital, which also treated 16 injured people including seven children, a doctor there said.

Eyewitnesses said a drone fired a missile at a crowd queuing with empty jerry cans next to a water tanker in al-Nuseirat refugee camp.

The Israeli military said there had been a “technical error” causing the missile to land dozens of meters from its intended target, which they said was a member of the Islamic jihad group. They said the incident was under review.

The Israel Defense Forces said it was aware of the “claim regarding casualties in the area as a result”. It said it tried to mitigate civilian harm “as much as possible” and “regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians”.

Verified video of the aftermath shows dozens of people rushing to help injured people, including children, lying among yellow jerry cans. BBC Verify was able to pinpoint the location by matching it with nearby rooftops, trees and telegraph poles.

Trump: US has seized Iranian cargo ship on eve of peace talks | BBC News

Published

on

The US has intercepted and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship attempting to get past its blockade of Iran’s ports, according to US President Donald Trump.

He said the ship was given “fair warning to stop” in the Gulf of Oman but refused, so the navy “stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room”.

Earlier it was confirmed that a US delegation led by the Vice President JD Vance will be In Pakistan for a new round of peace talks with Iran. However Iran has not confirmed that it will be participating in the talks.

Trump has again threatened to destroy Iran’s power plants and bridges if they do not reach a deal with the US, including reopening the strait of Hormuz to international shipping.

Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Lyse Doucet in Iran and Simi Jolaoso in Washington.
